Hello,

Well first I wanna say that I would've prefer not to make a topic but since there is no longer a sticky topic of "what game should I get" I had to make a new topic.

My question is, should I get Rust or Red Orchestra 2: GOTY + Rising Storm?

I know that Rust is a VERY different game from RO2 and I have experience in both genres but I'm short on money and I would like to buy one of the these right now. Many say that Rust is complete fun and weird (in a good way) and it is still in Alpha. Now Red Orchestra is a complete FPS hardcore game, which sounds fantastic. Survival genre is my favorite, FPS was once my fav and I still feel like playing a good FPS game. So what should I get?

I don't know, but I will say Rising Storm is great fun if you have the patience for it. It reminds me a lot of United Offensive, America's Army and those older PC first person shooters.

You get a lot of game for 20 dollars if you buy Rising Storm, if you managed to get past the initial learning curve there is a lot of fun to be had with it.

Rust is still in early access so it might be worth waiting to see how it progresses before jumping in.

It's hard to make that decision for you since, like you said, they are very different games. I'd say if don't have a group to play with get Red Orchestra, if you do go for Rust.

Red Orchestra 2 and Rising Storm are far more complete games that offer more right. I would go with those.

I have ro2 + rising storm. but i look up gameplay videos and rising storm is nothing like my game. Do i have to buy an add on pack or something? why does my game say its ro2+ rising storm but Steam still gives me the option to buy rising storm???

BTW i bought ro2 before rising storm came out

Rising Storm and RO2 no doubt, Rust is not very enjoyable yet atleast for me (could check out dayz standalone, Project Zomboid or 7 days to die at a later time though).

Rising Storm is pretty awesome, the atmosphere, improvements over ro2 and level design is pretty wicked. Rust could be good one day but as of now not very good.

Yup, however, I would wait for a sale on Rising Storm. I feel like its due for one, but OP if you're gung-ho about getting one or the other at this moment, I'd say Rising Storm.

@_SKatEDiRt_: Rising Storm is an expansion pack of sort, since you bought Ro2 before RS came out you need to upgrade it to RS.

Just to quickly add to this I haven't played rust although i've played a lot of RO2 and rising storm and I have to say out of the many FPS games i've tried RO2 is very special, and rising storm in my opinion is even more epic. You have to bear in mind though that for a shooter it is more realistic than most, but i like that challenge! The graphics are gorgeous even though its been out a while now, it runs like butter, and the teamwork is really there too. Its actually one of the best fps game's i've ever played, and definitely a hidden gem amongst them

So true. After playing RO2 for a couple weeks straight all other fps seem so easy

Insurgency is a 'tighter' game than RO2/Rising Storm, but it has smaller maps, less maps, shorter rounds and easier gunplay. It also doesn't feel epic like RO2/RS. Having 64 players fighting over a capture point with artillery dropping all around leads super intense moments and requires ballsy charges on the part of the attacker. There are also loads of maps for the game(s) and more on the way(all free), along with a really awesome looking Vietnam mod that has been in the works for a very long time.

Like someone else said, RO2/RS are special games, Insurgency is solid, but it doesn't captivate me nearly as much. I'd get RO2/RS now since it has a lot of content and a pretty good community, maybe wait for more content to be added to Insurgency and pick it up down the line.
