ok first off i just started overclocking and im wondering what temp should i stay under because im getting aroung 72 when doing nothing.

thats waaay to high man, my Q6600 at 3 ghz sticks at about 40 idle and 50 load with a thermaltake v1 with 50 % fan speed...

at stock its way cooler

Yeh that is far too high. What CPU, motherboard and heatsink do you have? Regardless of what you have, 72 is way too high for idle.

For CPU, that is very very high. I ALLWAYS keep it below 60.

my overclocked cpu is 55 idle and 87 when running a game. Is that too high?

my overclocked cpu is 55 idle and 87 when running a game. Is that too high?geodoc

Those are both too high. I suspect that you guys did not install the heatsinks correctly.

the lower the better, but if you can keep it under 42 idle, then you wont damage your gear ftmp

yea guys those are two high for temps but even 60+ can be bad, it can start detirioating your cpu at those temps suprised it didnt shoot out your comp >.

I don't go over 60C, if you haven't done anything and it's at 70 you need to check your heatsink and paste :?

What is a good program for monitoring temps of cpu?

What sort of temps should I be looking for on my Phenom X4 9950BE, I got stock cooling at the moment and Zalman thermal grease.

And can someone reccomend 3 or 4 coolers that would work well with this cpu, thanks :D

I use CoreTemp to monitor my CPU temps. It's currently idling at 49. Gotta love stock cooling!

As for a cooler for your AM2+, I'd go for the Zalman CNPS9500. :)
