Samsung Plasma 50" 720p agaisnt Sony LCD 40" HD 1080p

(My thread got locked on another board and I was told to post it here. I have gotten quite a few answers. I've only added the specs below to confirm on the TV I am interested in.)

I am upgrading my standard 32"inch TV to a flat screen. I want to enjoy both size and quality of video. And I love to play PS3 and really want to enjoy its graphics. How good is a Samsung C430 50" tv compared to a 40" Full HD LCD. Both cost the same.

1. Is 600Hz good? is higher the better or vice versa?
2. HDTV tuner built in? is it a good option too?
3. Is Dynamic Contrast Ratio good or not?
4. Is response time good?
5. 50" is massive but its 720p. Would it really make a difference at this size?

It all depends on you. Is the viewing area dim or well lit, is power consumption or weight an issue. Yada yada yada... Its best to see what will fill your needs then ask us what we think is better.(and if your thinking Plasma think Panasonic)

We were in a similar position last year with buying almost the same TVs. The Samsung looked way better even on stock settings. We were gonna get it even though it was just 720p but size > quality AMIRITE!? Then the salesman showed my dad some 42" LG 1080p LCD for the same price and he wanted that instead. I was kinda disappointed with it...until I calibrated it with settings from AVS Forum. Now 'tis is beast!

...still wanted that Samsung plasma though. At least its blacks don't rise :P

5. Would be sitting around 8-9 feet away for gaming and almost 15 ft for movies.

You can't see 1080p from 15ft on a 40". Even 9ft is probably a bit too far. All plasmas have high motion resolution. I'm not sure if the LCD will have a better contrast and black level than the Samsung plasma but I'd rather have 50" over 40".
