Because i was smart enough to buy a warranty on my current 46" Samsung DLP (1080i) I am now able to go buy a replacement for the Tv now that the bulbs are on back order. That's right! 2 years into my 4 year warranty and my bulb goes out. Normal. But what isn't normal is the type of bulb it needs. I was told I have an odd bulb even for my model.

So, I will get to go shopping for a replacement set at the price i originally paid, because the length of wait on the bulb becoming available..

I have had great luck with my current DLP. The bulb is the first service call I've made, in 2 years. I know many others with DLP sets and all are happy. But as i start to look into some of the newer, slim DLP's, i am reading some bad stuff. But same goes for some LCD's too.

Here are my options (not going into where I get them or how much to spend. these are the options):

Samsung HL-T5076S - Specs

  • 50"
  • DLP
  • 1080P
  • 10,000:1
  • Heard the small frame on the slim DLP's allow for the screen to bow and the image gets skewed.
  • Don't want to deal with back-ordered bulbs if ever out of warranty
  • Over $100 less than Sony.

Sony Bravia KDL-46V2500 - Specs

  • 46"
  • LCD
  • 1080P
  • 7000:1
  • Heard there are issues with cloudy displays. Seems as if its just "comes with the territory" with LCD's.

Can any of you give me some insight on LCD faults and their likelihood? I haven't much experience with LCD's of this size.

I would probably go with the LCD for viewing angles alone. Just my opinion.

I wouldn't get either. I would go with either a Sharp Aquos LCD (expensive) or a Samsung LCD. Sony doesn't allow 1080p through component or VGA. They're taking the console war a little too far...

Wouldn't use component. I don't think GeordiLaForge knows what he's talking about. Too busy bashing Sony. Not sure why anyone would buy a HDTV without HDMI. Not sure anyone woud buy a HD console without HDMI. But that's just me.

A lot of people saying LCD's still have a lot of clouding issues. Makes me nervous about them. I have had great luck with DLP so far.

you dont need hdmi cables to experience high def...xbox 360 didnt have hdmi support originally and ALOT of people bought it and use the component cables for hd which work perfectly. not sure why anyone would make a dumb comment like you did..but thats just me.

Don't call me dumb again. I haven't insulted anyone.

Did I say you need HDMI to run HD? NO! But to get a digital signal you do. And why use all of this digital hardware if you're going to use a analog cable? Geord-whatever keeps ging into threads saying its some kind of Sony conspiracy that the Sony's LCD don't allow the 360 to connect via component and get HD. Its laughable. He's blaming Sony for something MS should have put in the 360 in the first place.

And here you are backing him up!

i didnt say you were dumb i said your comment was dumb, but maybe you are because you obviously cant read. and its pretty silly to not understand why someone would buy an hd console that they wanted that offers hd through component cables.. 720p and 1080i through component cables is the same as that through hdmi except its not compressed into one single cable.there is no noticeable difference in the picture of 720p or 1080i with component cables than in hdmi.period. no maybe if you have a 1080p tv and you bought your xbox before it had hdmi support you could be upset. but its not that big of a deal really, and if it is then trade your console in and buy a new one.. millions of people were perfectly happy to buy an hd console with component cables. if you dont understand why maybe you should have your head examined or something
