sapphire was at CeBit yesterday showing off their lovely prototype hd 7970 toxic edition sporting both and oc and 6gb gddr5!!

to do this they had to go to a 3gb 7970 model and piggyback onto her another 3gb using a pair of 32-bit channels

its a pretty impressive looking card. i would love to see how it preforms in multi-monitor

at the very back of that photo you cal also see sapphire's protoype cpu cooler which uses their patented vapor-x vapor chamber technology which would be pretty interesting.

Surely 6GB is overkill? Even with multi-monitors 6GB as opposed to 3GB wouldn't make a massive diffrence would it?

Who knows. 1GB of vRAM per screen (if you are using three screens) seems good enough, but a lot of games can easily use more than that.

Yeah, several of my games use between 1.5GB and 2GB of VRAM on a single 1080p screen...

6gb is too much even for 3 screens. Some games might take advantage of it on 6 screens though. Still, only 1 7970 can't really cut it for 6 screens, and anyone who has the money to build a system with 6 screens for gaming might as well go with some super elite edition of the 7990 or the 690.
