So if I dont buy my cousins rig, ill be building my own. Im scared to do AMD processor and GPU. I have the Radeon HD 3650 in my current laptop and this thing hemhorhagges performance. Im looking to spend no more than 650$ on the tower, and I want to be able to run crysis, fallout, dragon age, mass effect 2 and hopefully games that come out in the next year or two without upgrading or with minimal upgrades at blazing speeds. So basically if anyone is kind enough i need help with a good build, and also consolation if im to use AMD. Also Im not trying to offend anyone for liking AMD, I have no real legitimate reason to dislike them other than the current card I have. So I am well aware that my fear is not strongly supported :)

Laptop versions usually suck. Wait, pretty much always suck.

So don't bias AMD on your laptop version, as desktop versions of any card are far superior to their laptop versions with the same name.

That site is awesome. And Im not necessarily opposed to using AMD in the computer that I build. What is a good GPU/mobo/processor combo (budget is 650$for the entire computer)

I did a AMD Phenom II X4 955 3.0GHz with an ASUS MicroATX board for about 100 bucks or so (Newegg Deal) and for 165 bucks I replaced my 8800GTX with a ATI 4890 (eBay). I've always built AMD systems as they do provide a lot of performance for a good price and only buy Intel based laptops.

AMD makes excellent desktop components, though laptops, (if you are to get one, its best to go with intel)

but I don't even see a reason to go intel desktop, (atleast for gamers, and casual users) (now if you were doing a lot of video encoding in such, this would be a different story)

as long as you go Phenom II (then AMD will be fine for you)

and ATI is gonna be the better choice over nvidia right now, (and for a while to come) this is coming from someone using nvidia as we speak.

I gotta Amd Athlon 2 630 Ati 5770 Two great parts at great prices. The 630 is comparable to the Core i3. Mobo Gigabyte Ma770t-UD3P This PC is great. Plays all my games well. Dirt 2, NTW, TF2 any source game. Very much playable and smooth. Athlon 2 is a great CPU line and the diff between the P2 is not huge and is usually relatively small. I will only buy intel if I can get a Core i5 or i7. Any less and Do not want.

the AThlon 2 performs very well for what you pay for it. It's great for the budget gaming PC.
