What game do you think is the scariest game you have ever played for PC?

Im interested in hearing what you people think, the games can range from any type from FPS to 3rd person adventure etc....

I think the scariest game i've ever played on the PC was Silent Hill 4: The Room

The only games I've played that have actually scared me are the Aliens vs Predator games, well the Marine Campaigns in each anyway.

I had forgotten all about that game. The marine campaign was amazing and very very scary. Time for AvP3? I think so. Condemed scared me a little. Just so eerie.

Yeah, I would greatly welcome a third AvP game. There are two Alien games in development, however, I believe.

i'd say system shock 2 for a few reasons

1. there is scarce resources - it's no run n gun blaster, ammo and supplies aren't very abundant, and every shot you take is a measured decision of how much danger you're in now vs how much danger you may be in later - it's a horrible feeling to see your ammo draining away, sort of like watching the blood pump out of your body, it's very difficult to try and rationalise letting your blood pump away - you'll often just find yourself running around in a mad panic trying to escape the enemy

2. the atmosphere is astounding - excellent use of voice acting and cinematic scene-setting as you frequently encounter log recordings of the ship's crew, as well as ghosts create an amazing atmosphere of anguish - watching a ghost tell his family how much he loves them before blowing his brains out is as moving as it is horrific - and there's a tremendous sense of isolation as you stalk through the aftermath of what must have been some utterly horrible events

3. the enemies look and sound wrong - it's as though they spent time working out the wrongest sounds they could possible find, sounds that just couldn't exist in nature, then implemented them into their game, and you can often hear the enemies before you can see them, and there's just nothing worse than knowing you have to round a corner and face one of those awful things

4. respawns - you have to backtrack through the ship a lot, and this means enemies randomly respawn - it's hard to ever feel safe when an enemy could come from anywhere, at any time - and the only thing worse than hearing an enemy before you see it is not hearing an enemy before you see it - you'll often turn just in time to find a whrench flying at your brain - enemies do tend to pop up right behind you

system shock 2 is really just the most amazing horror experience i've ever had on the pc, and i'm really hoping bioshock can follow it up and start making it onto lists like these

Scariest games for me are 1. System Shock 2 -The Silence of the ship and Zombie moans still scare me.

                                      2. Clive Barkers Undying -The sudden spooks in the house were so scary.

                                      3. Diablo- The lower dungeon levels in route to Diablo himself were a blast.

                                       4. Doom 3

                                       5. F.E.A.R

My scariest game ever, would probably be F.E.A.R, The combination of adrenalin pumping Shooting, while that horrible little girl is breathing down your neck, very cool.

System Shock 2 for me too! :o :? :|

The old hotel level in Vampire: Bloodlins scared the crap out of me.
But that's just one level though, not a game.

First time through ravensholme in Half-Life 2 scared me, played it again since and waltzed though it with out jumping once.

F.E.A.R just sort of irritated me, wasting ammo on those men that disintegrated right in front of you.

Have to agree, AvP2 marine campaign was good at scaring me.

AVP and Doom3 - made even worse when you have friends around when your playing the games at 2am+ at night lol :) It's a good laugh for them to make you jump while playing those games or when you do something stupid ;)

The Scariest moment in Games for me is when that little creepy headcrab jumps at me in Half Life. I have played that game more than 200 times, and now exactly from where that little freak will jump at me, but still I get scared. :(

By the way, Half Life, FEAR & now STALKER are the only games which gives me creeps.

about the only scary game ive played is F.E.A.R- though the ravenholm sequence in HL2 was creepy the first time. I try to steer clear of horror movies/games cause whilst most don't really scare me while I watch them I wont be able to think of anything else at night for ages. I'm still trying to get over Saw-every time I get into bed I think of the bit where zepp is hiding in Gordan's daughter's cupboard.

Silent Hill 2 was the scariest for me. We were a couple of guys playing it on the PS2, and we kept tossing the controller to each other. We didn't know what the hell was going on in that town, with crazy monsters and that creepy girl. The worst part was when we got the radio and realized that everytime we heard it make those noises, monsters were near. Play it in a dark room and you'll see what I mean.

A third AvP would be the best of the best. There is no game I have found that have scared me as much as AvP have. Could feel my heart beating all the way, hehe

I see some say F.E.A.R is scary, well that game almost made me sleep. An great game, but not on my scary list, hehe

Have played way to many games and tried most of what is out there, but none as scary as AvP.
Only game I can remember that scared me back to stoneage was Men In Black

Was sitting way to close to the screen and speakers when my friend played it and at a cutscene a alien guy jumped out from some garbage cans. The sound extremly high and it was for sure nothing I expected to happend. Just scared the saint out of me and I remember it as it was yesterday.  My friends won't let me forget that, haha

AvP 2 for sure.
Half-Life Series (many jump scares)

And as for as "in my mind scary":
Blair Witch I (despite the silly combat scenes...how many people jumped when they walked into the bathroom at the motel)
Scratches

The only game that really gave me that cold feeling in my spine was FEAR, especialy that part where you walk and suddenly see an office window brake, i thought it was just another trick to scare me, but then i looked at my health bar and it was going down , it took me some time to realize that i was being attacked by those invisable foes. That part really scared the **** out of me. :)

gotta add to my list. just beat silent hill 4 a little while ago and that is the top scary game for my list. the others are still scary though. the main reason that sh4 scared me so bad was that afteri beat it it was like 11 so i went to bed and i was lying awake because i realized that my room looks EXACTLY like Henry's bedroom. two windows on the right side of the bed, dresser/desk infront of the bed, closet to the right side of the bed, and a real short hall-like thing to the door on the far right side of the room. creepy.

ya umm what he said. System shock 2 not just the scariest game but one of the BEST games of all time. Honestly I think it got overshadowed by the first halflife when it was released. I think it was actually better than halflife and thats one of the best compliments you can give a game :)

All 4 of your points are right on the money. Don't forget the music though, some of the most atmospheric eerie music I've seen in a game. The sound overall was amazing period.

FEAR - the lil' girl always freaks me out

Condemned: Criminal Origin - prolly more scary than FEAR. mainly because your always walking around with some stupid weapon in dark buildings full of crack junkies that want a piece of you XD
