Clive Barkers Undying
Was so dang paranoid the entire game.

Same here... I must have quick saved a few thousand times, always afraid what was around the corner...Â
As you grow older games become less scary because you mature and know what's real and what's not. If you get scared from a game you should overcome you fear by beating it.
Now there's a difference between being scared and being annoyed. Far Cry is a great example of that. I could beat that game but I just can't put up with the checkpoint system. Also the quicksave function requires ini editing which I am not going to bother with. Plus a patch which is fine but it shouldn't require editing in the INI.
I'd say Condemned and to a point FEAR.
Condemned is pretty much creepy all the way through. FEAR like most horror games gets all actioney towards the end, but it works in FEAR since it is more action than horror to start with.

It's not just all actioney towards the end but it's also very lame how they have these "ghosts" or whatever to attack you... it's like they're not trying to keep up with that "something's-creeping-in-the-dark-and-that's-what's-scaring-you" feel to scare you anymore.

none? have you played Clive Barker's Undying? Doom 3? play those games on max graphics, best sound quality on max volume with surround and without a single light on - now lest see how brave you are
arguing over what's scary is a little pointless - it's like arguing over what's funny
in the same way that different people are amused by different things, different people are frightened by different things - i found doom 3, as an example, far more annoying that frightening - being shocked with enemies jumping out at me is the single most derivative, predictable and overused horror mechanic in the history of horror computer games
i've only found 2 pc games ever genuinely frightening, and besides system shock 2 (which i mentioned myself) no one mentioned either of the games on my list... such is relativity
Doom III + Resurrection Of Evil, Silent Hill 2 & 3 (enabling screen noise adds a lot to the atmosphere), F.E.A.R. + Extraction Point, The Suffering and The Suffering: Ties That Bind. Â
Not exactly whole game, but one level from Half-Life 2 called ''We don't go to Ravenholm'' is scarry as hell too:D

I'm playing SS2 right now, it's starting to become very creepy... It's not as scary as it is nervewrecking, you're on the edge all the time never knowing what's going to happen next. I hate it when I turn around and a 2 by 4 smacks me in my face. I'm taking a break from it right now, lol...
