Why hasn't this kind of game come out yet...? I dunno about you but It sounds cool. A mix between EVE / X3 / STALKER / "Oblivion" type game. Is there word of this kind of game? (NOT an MMO format)

Cause it would be pricey as hell to devolope, problem wouldn't sell well due to extreme depth and high learning curve, on top of being to awesome for the average mind to handle.

So an unreal tournament/Elder scrolls/X3 hybrid you say.

Good luck getting gamers around that learning curve, not to mention the amount of development time that would be needed to blend it all successfully.

Ah I was going to say The Precursors as well. Nobody has heard of it because the Devs have only ever released 1 other game. And I'm not sure if they have a publisher outside of Russia yet.

I've heard of The Precursors, but I'm not exactly sold on it...yet. Also, the infamous Battlecruiser/Universal Combat series does have some space "sim", RPG, and FPS elements to it...but the interface is downright CONFUSING. Expect to RTFM several times over. (Also expect some frustration, as the series in general has a high learning curve.) The basic concept the OP wants does sound like one of my own game ideas, though...it basically boils down to what you might get if you threw in Starflight, Star Control II, Independence War 2, a touch of Freespace 2, Operation Flashpoint/Armed Assault, and any of the main The Elder Scrolls games into a blender and hit puree. (If I were to elaborate, you would easily have the longest post in the history of the GameSpot forums...)

yeah i guess the learning curve would be high however. if they took the oblivion rout you could focus more on the space sim part rather than the fps elements and vise versa. I think it would give a game really good playability. Also within the next few years i think fps/rpg game will be like a side scroller was in the 90's. The controls will be 2nd nature for most gamers. Also, an online outer space environment could be endless. depending how long the game lasts planets could be destroyed the A.I. could function in a way where it expanded to new planets. It would be a big development, However it wouldn't be impossible. With all the people who make mods and stuff. The devs could hold contests for people to design new races and plants. It's just an idea...that might never happen...in my life time...haha p.s. if EVE had fps missions on planents, it would be golden.

The closest to feasible solution I could think of, is a major company developing games in each section, then allowing you to import characters from 1 game to the other, or even do it mid-game so experience points from one game get carried over to the other game.

It would be tough, but it could also create some "brand loyalty" if executed correctly.

How about FreeSpace 2? Its SCI-FI, Outer Space, Flight Sim, FPS (kind of), and RPG (maybe some elements in the game).

AMAZING game Try it out.
