Why is it just about every limited edition set of a game that has a PC version, the PC version doesn't get these versions? I thought the black ops one looked neat, however, big surprise, no PC limited edition. Oh hey! Force unleashed 2 has a collector's edition! Oh wait...no PC.....Oh wow! Zombrex edition for Dead Rising 2! I want! Oh wait....Not for pc.....ALRIGHT! Fable 3! Oh sweet! Limited edition!!...oh wait...no pc...Anyone seeing a trend here?

Exactly, unless they come with something worth while, for instance, the soundtrack of the game! (if it has a good soundtrack)

other than that I don't care about limited editions

I think it is just developers/publishers taking into account the way the PC market is moving away from "trinklets" to digital downloads. As far as I know recent data suggests that in the US over 50% of PC games are sold digitally and the rest of the world it is as high as 80%. There just isn't enough demand on the PC for "boxed" collector editions. I know I have never bothered with them myself even when I was buying boxed games.

I am afraid to say if you are in this business for the "collecting" of collector editions then you bought the wrong platform.

I got a limited adittion for alone in the dark. Honestly i wouldn't mind the normal edition, everything in the limited was crap including the figurine. In order to buy a limited edition it must have something that is proven to be usefull.

I have to confess I wasn't aware of the actual contents of the Black Op's edition. My curiosity was sparked and I had a look ......... well I just shook my head in utter dismay. The Prestige Edition costs $150 and for that you get the crappiest looking RC car I have ever seen which has a mini camera on board that is of such low resolution as to be next to useless.

Now having seen this new information I would like to change my initial assessment of why the PC version is not getting collector editions. I like to believe in the case of Call of Duty : Black Ops the reason why there is no Prestige edition is down to the fact they realised no one on the PC is moronic enough to pay $150 for the game with a crappy RC car :P

Some companies do get the collectors edition just right, I know the Starcraft 2 collectors edition tempted me. I thought it was a fantastic idea to include a unique USB memory stick that had the original Starcraft and Brood wars pre-installed. Even though I was tempted the price of £70 killed that interest.

It's not the fact about the content of the stuff, it's the fact that 9 times out of 10 PC players get screwed when it comes to special editions like this. It's the thought that is agrviating. You may not see something you like now in any special editions, but I wouldn't be surprised if sometime down the road you see one that might make you think otherwise.

There is very few collectors editions worth getting away, most of them are a waste of money.

You are seeing why in this thread, there hasn't been a single person go "yah super collector editions woo hoo". You will find that collector editions do not sell on the PC. It isn't PC gamers getting screwed it is the market reacting to what PC gamers want or do not want. We stopped buying retail discs and the market responded going digital and the same is happening with collectors editions. There just isn't the demand for them in the PC market place so most publishers don't bother.

They are selling this on consoles because parents will want to buy the best version for their kids for christmas. It comes with pure gimmicks because they can get away with it when the person playing it isn't the one paying the extra $100. Most kids have consoles, but not pro gaming pc rigs.

Limited Edition is for fools. More fools play consoles which is why they have higher prices on console games and DLC. The DLC has stupid prices for something simple or should already be in the game. I swear to god console gamers need to buy a calculator if they really think PC gaming is expensive.

Buy the standard game if you're into it, champ. Limited edition is just twice the price tacked on for pixels.

Totally this. If you think shiny boxes and cheap merchandise make a game, or anything for that matter, then you are badly mistaken.

Limited editions that have more than just trinkets are worth the money. When The Witcher first came out, the collector's edition came with the soundtrack and the novel the setting is based on, among other things. My collector's edition copy of Dragon Age came with the first three DLC, plus the usual items (art book, map, making-of), and if I remember right that was an extra $10. If they include stuff that is actually worth the extra money, I don't mind paying extra. It needs to be something that improves the game though, not just cube decorations like the Fallout 3 bobble-head guy.

As Bill Hicks said, it's a personal choice. As long as that personal choice does not infringe upon the freedoms of another persons personal choice.

Paying extra money for an artbook, a making of DVD, a poster, or a soundtrack for a game is fine if you want it, but to call people dumb and foolish for buying them is in itself a stupid generalisation. I'll admit the majority of them are cons, but some of them can be decent, e.g. Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, The Witcher.

sometimes you get good things that help with gameplay, for instance in Diablo 2 limited edition you got a strategy guide for the whole game that covered every character, their attacks, spells, all levels, monsters, items etc. And that was only another $30 or so.. now call that dumb

idk. i enjoyed my doom 3 limited edition equipped with making of documentaries and complete versions of doom 1 and 2. now thats a limited edition. i wouldnt imagine buying anything limited edition if the extra money going toward it didnt reward me any further. there is one exception, and that is if you are a fan of the series and want that limited edition for aesthetic sake. it doesnt come down to if the gamer is hardcore or not, it comes down to if its worth it. thats how it should be, anyway....

I doubt it was useless when it came out... since lots of people didn't even have internet back then... and some people like reading off actual paper.

What about Diablo 1? Is playing that, in a deep dark dungeon, with no connection to the rest of the world, considered blasphemy?

Well Diablo2 was probably designed for playing online, and you'll have a hard time completing even a simple armor set in sp while it will be easy as pie online, maybe even free.

I've never played Diablo1 online, it was a bit before my time. :/

I'm not concerned about limited editions, but what annoys me is if entire games are not available for pc

That or ports to pc that did not make any effort to make the menus or controls more user-friendly.

Anyway, enough complaining for now... :-p
