Tought about it since I'd like more 2.1 now over 5.1.

Something along the lines of a AudioEngine A2 + Auzentech Forte\Meridian

Watcha think?

And price I could sell my Z-5500(still in pretty good shape)?

Audioengines are well liked around here.

Meridian 2G or something from HT OMEGA.

Sell it for 200-250 I'd guess.

Z-5500s are 300 watt right ? No way I would get rid of those for 2.1 and no way would I ever go back to 2.1

Well,I'm not gaming as I used to and much more listening to music and if I want immersion,I'll just use my headphones...so I don't feel the need of 5.1 anymore. Quality>quantity :P

Just search on Canuck Audio Mart for an amp and speakers. http://www.canuckaudiomart.com/

Well you don't have to purchase only from Quebec, there's a lot in Ontario that can be shipped for not much. Anyways what sort of budget are you on?

Well,I just grabbed the Xonar Essence STX for 120$...a world of differences with my HD-555 :|

And I still feel a good difference with my Z-5500,even using s-pdif connection

Budget of another 200$ for the speakers

Are you in Quebec city, or elsewhere in the Province? If you're in the metropolitan area, I'd visit the local shops and Best Buy, check out what's on clearance, and see if there's a good deal on some speakers in your price range.

If you're not near the city, even though it depletes your budget, it might be worth sucking up the shipping charges to have access to a broader range of products.

Happy gaming,

Boz

Living directly in Quebec city :P But buying speakers will most likely involves buying an amp... and both taxes if I buy it here :(

Agreed! Just keep watching Canuck Audio Mart and I'm sure you'll find a good deal in or close to your budget.

Example, after a few minutes of looking I saw a Rotel RA-932 (ON) for $115, and a pair of VIFA monitors (BC) for $75.

You're either paying shipping or taxes, so pick your poison. Personally I would just hold on to the Z-5500; they're not that bad to warrant selling them for something in the $200 range unless you're finding something is really lacking, in my opinion. If you're definitely selling, you have some additional options:

  • Consider a pair of studio monitors from companies like KRK, Dynaudio, or Tannoy (the latter being my favorites). Studio monitors have built-in amplifiers and sound wonderful; I don't know why more folks don't use them as PC speakers.
  • If you want to really broaden your selection, buy an amplifier and you can use pretty much any home speaker (something like the Dayton Class-T). This will open up your options on Canuck Audio Mart, since most of those speakers require external power. There is a nice pair of Nuance Star 1S listed right now.

Good luck,

Boz

Oh well... I'll stick with my z-5500 and my HD-555 for now, considering I've seen a huge improvement with the card only and get something else when I get more monies
