Would be used for mp3 player use mainly. Some people say the extra 100 bucks isn't worth it for the upgrade to a 595. Anyone have any personal experience with both?

i havnt listened to the 595s, but if you intend to buy one of these headphones for an MP3 player, then go with the 555s. They sound great and dont need an external amp to get the most out of them.
mp3 players can drive them, although not particularly loud and because of their open design, sound leaks in and out. If you are going to walk around outdoors, then perhaps closed headphones or some decent In Ear headphones are the wiser choice.
They are rated better than the bose Q2 anyway, and like 150 bucks less. Odds are good I will go with the 555s. I need something that just immerses me in sound, noise canceling isnt at all important or loudness.
They would be used almost solely for home pc use and mp3 player usage in the house and maybe sitting outside. I really hope I get my hands on a pair soon...
...i still need to do research and find out if there are even better sets out there, at least my list is narrowing :)
sennheisers hd 555 are officially out, I just found out the cord is like 10 miles long and their bass is not all that great. Ugh. I've a massive headache
All good headphones have long cables, i think 4 metres/10 feet is pretty standard. For bass get grados or closed back Denons (i know the d2000, 5000 and 7000 all have great bass)sennheisers hd 555 are officially out, I just found out the cord is like 10 miles long and their bass is not all that great. Well, there must be something out there that doesnt have a long cord. If worse comes to worse I will have to end up getting the Bose q2 for portability porpose and sacrifice overall sound quality. I cant lug around a long coiled heavy cord. I'll look into the dennon models, I know almost nothing about them. But once again I am only interested in sound quality, of course with some nice bass but not bass being the main focus for the set. Back to the drawing board
I know Monster and Bose are incredibly overpriced, but their quality is very good and they were designed for people like me who want to move around and still have amazing sound quality and bass. The Dr. Dre Beats are like 220 on amazon, they have the sound quality i would be happy with, short cord, folding! But I am not at all sure of what to do, there are too few sets of headphones that meet my standards, all are overpriced.

If you can show me or recommend me a pair of truely fully over the ears that fold, have GREAT bass and amazing sound, have a short cord and dont look like shoes sitting on your head, please link me. I've yet to find ANYTHING that supports all of the above outside of the Dr Dre. Beats and Bose Q2. I've gotten to demo the Triports and the Dr Dres, and the Beats owned the triports like no tomarrow. But again they are pricey, I am willing to pay it though.
They have a coiled cord that stretches to over 10 feet, they are no good for me. That cord is way too heavy, in a ready position its like 4.5 feet, but its damn heavy.
Ive been using the monster turbines for a while, love them but they are hurting my ears, I need over the ears. Dre's beats are looking good.
Dre's beats:
-overpriced
-folding
-top quality in bass and sound quality, beats out the bose Q3 i think
-short cord, comes in RED too thats pretty neat
-extremely comfy
-overpriced
-sexy as hell
-small earcups but over the ears
-overpriced
still worth it though

A few people mention those but I cant find ANY video reviews on youtube at all. That really scares me... I can at least go to best buy and demo the Beats, but I cant find the ES7s anywhere around here. Plus, they are not as sexy as the Beats, and I find it really hard to believe they sound better than the Beats. Afterall they are 99 bucks on amazon and the Monsters are around 225. I can only go by what I get to demo, if i can find a pair of the ATHES7s and a freak miracle occurs where they are much better than the monsters, I'll of course get them.
...but ive had awful luck in the headphones depo

IMHO, the Beats demo at Best Buy sounded like absolute muddy ass. I was more impressed by a Bose demo at a local Target. Also, I can't see how a video review would be anymore helpful in reviewing a pair of headphones than a typed out/written up review of one. Unless you just don't like reading them and prefer watching them, there isn't a single reason why a video review would make a pair of headphones superior to another. My 2cents.
Most reviews I've bothered to read about the Beats (be it the over the ear Dres or the in-ear turbines) all said they were way overpriced for the mediocre/average quality. Any other reviews sound like Monster paid them to write it or they are Monster fanboyish. If I'm not mistaken, the Beats headphones require batteries to run. For the price you could probably pick up some Sennheiser HD-600s, Audio Technica ATH-A900, Sony MDR-7509HD, ect.
If portability is your main concern along with sound quality, look at Shures, Ultimate Ears, Klipsch for some IEMs.
I had the ATH ms5pro for a while and i just hated them to pieces, the sound quality and coiled idiotic cord was so annoying, i vowed to never again use a set of headphones like them. I am looking into the ATHes7, and I would like VIDEO of normal people using them, instead of some reviewer for some site I've never heard of attempting to compare them to something else. The es7s are like 99 bucks on amazon and I've got a budget of around 200. I would like something better than them. But once again it is very difficult to find a set that fits my requirements. This is a stretch, I know. I've lots of requirements. I use a samsung p3 mp3 player with amazing EQ customization. The headphones i buy will not be used for anything else.
-small ear cans that are fully around the ear and very comfy
-foldable preferred, if not, it better sound amazing in it's place
-closed back
-very nice bass that isnt muddish ( i own the monster turbines, they are very nice but they hurt my ears and I know i can do better )
-excellent sound quality that would make a true audiophile like me happy.
-200$ ish price range.
-short, non heavy duty coiled cord ( will not touch a set ever again with coiled cords or are long than 5ft )
HUGE stretch as i said, but I am not giving up. NEVER GIVE UP, NEVER SURRENDER!
i have been rocking the 555's for about 4 years now. I use them everyday, and they are starting to show it. Well... thats generous because i love them so much: they are literally falling apart. I use them with my xbox and turntable via cross fader, and with my computer rig. I originally got them to play cs 1.6 back a few years ago... and they did the job perfectly. The open acoustics really shine but make sure to burn them in for a while. You can wear them for hours and the never get uncomfortable. These where my first real cans, and honestly it has been an amazing experience. As far as 555 vs 595, if your source matches better, or outputs to the 595 frequency, id say do it. Its an investment... one of my best ones yet. If you can try saving for the 650s, thats my next hi-fi purchase
I'm actually going to but the Esw9a with a small amp. Seems like the best choice for me
I can sacrifice over the ear for circular on ears so long as they have everything else i want.
Sennheisers are no good for me, they are not designed for portability. Their cords are too long, their cans are too bulky and heavy. Great quality yes, but I can't lug around a 10 foot cord on a Senn HD 555, I'd rather get the ATHes7 for the same price and get portability while still having excellent quality and bass
