Service pack 3 help!

ok this is what happened.

i had my PC it is windows xp pro. i payed for it on a PC shop.

well i got a update from MS today last ngiht and i updated it was SP3 for XP. i updated. and when i restarted my PC. it say u have 30 days to activeate my PC or i wont beable to use it!

make things wose they guy i bought my PC from pre-install XP pro on my PC with giving me a key for it.

i mean M$ is so stupid for doing this. could of they just did a check on to see if you have a real copy of it like you do every time when your going to update. windows media player or when you download something for office!?

what can i do?? what should i do? the guy who build my PC close his shop cuz of the money market problems so now i have no one to turn to.

im just dont want those cry baby MS to take my PC that i broke my back for weeks to get the money.

i swear MS just pissed me off this time. i mena now i know why people likes apple so much.. all this time i defened M$ and Vista, and they do this to me!

help me anyone plzz!?

It sounds like he gave you a pirated copy of windows.

The only solution is to buy a legitimate copy, which you should have anyway just in case anything goes seriously wrong (major virus, nasty piece of spyware) and you need to reinstall the OS.

MS is a big, impersonal company. They aren't going to care about your sob story. They'll just tell you to go buy a legitimate copy.

In the future, buy your PC from someone reliable, or build it yourself.

the thing is everytime when MS ran a check to see if i had a lagit copy it said i pass the check. and lets me download.

also i dont get that message saying i got a stolen copy of windows. and i can download the update from MS with no problem.. just when it updated to SP3 thats when i get the stupid key sign and saying i got what 29 days left.

well thsi is what i did i make the clock to stop getting the timt front he net. and i set my clock back 12 hours. will that help stop the timer till i figer what to do.

i cant just let my PC exprie cuz i have a lot of work to do and i cant miss a day. also i dont have the money to pay for a copy of Xp i mean i know MS will be chageing up the @$$ for it

a lot of people at mom and pop computer shops dont use legitamite software to do their fixes and upgrades

to tell you the truth, what alot of them do is take a recovery image of your computer and burn it to a disc, reinstall windows with whatever CD's they have.. (which is probably some torrent they downloaded because they dont feel like taking the time to get windows xp for system builders...) and use the recovery image to get all of your files back.

then they charge you 300 dollars and tell you a bunch of technical mumbo jumbo saying they fixed it, and blame all of the problems on viruses and spyware, because they dont really have any kind of certifications to be working on computers, and dont really know what was wrong with the computer, but they sure do know how to reformat a hard drive and reinstall a non-genuine copy of windows on your machine.

hey wats going on there, ah it sux that this is happening to you and well i had the same problem too. No he didnt give u a fake copy of vista but either way u have to format it to get back to normal. However u dont have to format it all you have to do is change the year in your computer to 2099 in the time settings in control panel. That will take off the 30 day crap for good but u wont be able to us msn messenger until u change it back to the actual date, which u can do back and forth after using it and stop using it. so your saying if i put the year 2099. it will get rid of it. but i cant use MSN messager? when you say MSN mesager do you also mean Windows Live Messager??

and when i put the year 2099 will that speed up the timer?? cuz i wnet forward years and years??

Just go and buy a legal version of Windows. You have already used Windows illegaly for some time, it is onyl fair to pay for what you use.

How would you feel if people stole from you? Either pay for Windows or download Linux.

Some people say Linux is better, I don't know, but it is free, and that seems to be what you care about.

Did you pay for Windows, or just for a PC with an illegal copy of Windows? If you actually bought Windows then you should have a box with a key code on it, or at the very least a sticker on the PC with the key code.

If I steal a car and then sell it to you, legally it is not yours, so if your PC guy used 1 copy of Windows for every PC he built then that is your problem, not Microsoft's.

does lunix works with skype , yahoo messager and does it work with windows live messager? thats all i reall care about right now. i have people i keep in touch with so if lunix works with them then ill get it in a heart beat

steam doesnt work on linux, and neither will alot of other games...

usually a game has to be ported, or optimized for WINE on linux...

What you can do, is report the computer shop for giving you a non-genuine copy of windows, and they may be forced to give you a genuine copy, or give you the money to buy it

one time a friend of mine took their computer to a computer shop to have it fixed, and when he got it back he found the CD they used to fix it with. turned out the CD was a burned copy of the Best Buy's Geek Squad MRI. He reported the computer shop to best buy and got 100 dollars in-store credit. So.. maybe that will work with Windows too... idk
