Tried to update the game to the 1.74 patch...this is all I get, everytime. I've updated through the game, I've updated from Gamestop, and I've gone to 2k games for help as well. I bought the game yesterday from gamestop, it is definitely there.

Any help?

This is just a guess, but it's possible that you have a version to version patch (for example, 1.6 to 1.7 patch) and the game is looking for version 1.6 and not finding it because you have a different version - presumably 1.0, if you just installed it.

Check the patch versions carefuly to see if the patch notes or file name specifies a particular version to patch from. It might be that, if there are no cumulative patches, you need to download multiple patches and go from 1.0 to 101, 1.1 to 1.2, and so on, all the way to 1.7.

You might want to try getting an earlier patch - the first released, if possible - and see if that works. If it does work, get consecutive patches and keep on trying the 1.74 patch with each updated version. It will hopefully take at some point.

Again, this is a guess, but it's a common issue when patching a game.

Civ 4 has it's own built in patch downloader. Have you tried doing that? That should work. If you are downloading patches from some other website, that's why it's not working.

I did the same thing, bought Civilization IV from Gamespot and tried the BUILT IN updater, it downloaded the update, said it had to close the game and install the update.

As soon as the installer for the updater starts it says:

'The setup has detected that no version of Sid Meier's Civilization 4 is installed.

This update requires that a previous version of the application be installed."

... Great job Gamespot and Trymedia ...

Reinstall, try dling the patch from a different source.

The in-game patch dl is notoriously bad.

Good Luck

I have been trying every combination of installing uninstalling patching and so fourth and I am still getting the same problem as the other guy above, the patch can't find where my Civ 4 is installed. I put the file in various locations on the desktop, in the civ folder, in the patches folder, did nothing.

I know this is an old thread but - someone please help!
