Go with dual boot. It's not that you will have to purchase XP right?
In a year or so you may decide to get rid of XP but it will definitely be worth it to have XP for now.Alan wake and the new 3dmark is vista exclusive so you really have to get vista as well.
This thread I'm afraid will get filled up with fanboys.
I will try to answer based on my own experience of Vista and XP.
XP right now is essentially just a good idea if you are not interested in "next-gen" gaming on PC and intend to go with a small budget. The higher system requirements of Vista will force you to pay more for parts.
Vista comes with the obvious benefit of DX10. Add to that a cleaner interface and improved networking ability. I also feel a need to state the obvious, the fact that Vista is "the future", Xp will be abandoned soon. Thus to build a new rig with XP is to cripple its future.
My opinion is that you get Vista. However Ultimate is not the best for gaming. All four versions are the same in that department.
I would advice you to get either home basic (If your interest is mainly gaming) or home premium (If you want media center, enhanced dvd-burning etc).
The only benefit of Basic against premium is the price. The only reason to get ultimate is if you desperatly need bitlocker, or just have a little more money than you need.
Don't listen if people rant about Vista being bugfilled, this is not true.
Vista is right now far more stable than XP was during its first year. I have Vista, all games run flawlessly on it, just remember to be administrator.
Hope that hepled :)
I only have a 8600 GT = I have to run some new games on low graphics settings = Unreal Tournament for instance. For some reason, most of my games lag badly during menu usage. Some apps won't install / run, also.
Other than that, I guess Vista works OK for me.zenzen
More than likely your video card, or drivers. I dont have that issue in any games, including UT.
My rig is going to be good and everything will be prepared to get VISTA if i want. So what the benifits from Dual Boot based on your experience (In other words, why you are Dual-Booting) Is there any program that you cant run except XP or your hardware isnt enough for that Vista or maybe another reason ??SearchMasterBetter gaming performance and you dont get screwed if some program is not supported by 64-bit.

You could
A. Run 32-bit vista
B. Run in compatibility mode for 32-bit application.
