Hello. I am a bit confused.

First of all, if I don't buy a PC this month, I won't be able to do so until November 2008!!!

So, shall I buy now a C2D E6750 or 6850 and a P35 motherboard with support for DDR2 only, or shall I wait till the new 45 nm processors become available and X38 motherboards get cheaper? I want this PC to last me 3-4 years without or with minimal upgrading (like a new RAM stick or an extra HDD, etc).

What I have in mind beside the CPU and motherboard are: a 8800 GT and 2 GB of DDR2 RAM 800 MHz with a 500 GB HDD and a 19" WS LCD screen.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I know that the price difference is minimal, but is it better in games than a dual core?

What about the FSB? It's in the **50 models 1333 MHz, right? It's lower than that in the Q6600.

Yes it is better is some games like Crysis andmorefutureproof, the FSB difference is irrelevant in real time performance

The motherboard is the most difficult thing to upgrade in a computer (difficult to do without having to rebuild windows). I'd suggest going all out for the mobo now (intel ddr3 boards= $250, asus ddr3= $330) and go with a cheaper Core 2 Duo. You can always buy a better processor and faster ram later; go with an older board and the upgrade path becomes more confined.

If your on a tight budget get a E6750 instead of the Q6600. A good P35 board is GIGABYTE DS3L.

I would really advise against what he has to say, with intel changing socket in the near future you are better off just going with a DDR2 based board as u will need to buy a new socket mobo anyway for nehalem (sp?) and by the time these new socket mobos are out DDR3 will be cheaper anyway

You are right. I guess so.

Does anyone have any idea when Intel will be releasing these new processors?

And how much do you think the 8800 GT will last me? Are 19" WS LCDs good for gaming. I still play plenty of old games that don't have widescreen support.

I came to the following conclusions:

1. DDR3 is not for me!

2. I am not going to wait for the new 45nm processors!

3. It's either the E6750 or the Q6600, and I am leaning towards the E6750 for its price.

But I have a question is the 780i motherboards any good? They are in the same price range as the X38 ones.

Also, is the new Phenom processor good for gaming?

Finally: is this motherboard good: Gigabyte P35-DS3R? That's the only decent Gigabyte P35 motherboard I could find. The other one was the expensive DQ6. I also found the MSI P35 Platinum. So I need some advice!

If you are willing to overclock get a E2160 and then you can upgrade to a Dual Core Penryn and you would have only spent the same amount as a current high spec Core2Duo!

Mmmm. Thanks.

I have never overclocked before! Will the stock cooler fit for the job or I will have to change it?

Can someone answer the rest of my questions? Thanks.
