Is there any reason to preorder pc, if later that week they will just drop in price.

To have it now? Or rather, release day?
This is been going on for years now. If you want it on release day, expect to pay a little more. Those whoa re patient, will pay less.

The problem with this thread is that the game could be had for 39.99 on preorder as long as you were a frugal shopper so not seeing the issue.
Amazon drops their prices ALL the time. They always have promos and stuff running. For instance, Tekken 6 (not a PC game, but still) I managed to get for $20 less than a month after it was released. The game will still sell for $50 at most places, but you can most certainly expect to pay cheaper prices at Amazon as they have deals going on all the time.
Perhaps it's not selling well. It does seem like just another re-skin of Empire, after all. I was not even close to impressed by the demo.
Game is topping Steam best seller list and with all the praise the game is getting from reviewers i doubt it just one of amazon's price discounts they have all the time.Perhaps it's not selling well. I pre-order titles that I really, really want to play asap, for other titles I'm willing to wait, indeed I waited to buy games almost 1 - 4 years after release eg,
Witcher original release 2007 - just got it 2011,
GRID orginal release 2008 - just got it 2011,
Lost Planet 2 orginal release 2010 - just got it 2011,
and on and on, however as I get older, closer to middle age the less I'm willing to wait for obvious reason.
The game is Steamworks - it doesn't matter where you buy it, it's being activated and run via Steam in the end. With this being just for the Digital Version, as the Hard Copy is stilll $50, I think Amazon is just trying to get a cut of the Digital Sales as Shogun 2 is topping the Charts at Gamersgate, Direct2Drive and Steam ever since it released.

if I buy the game off Amazon, do I get a key right away I can sync with Steam? Or do I need to download the entire game via whatever Amazon uses first?
You should get a key. The game has to work with steam. I got mine of D2d using the 20% discount (the one weeks ago), got activation code and put it in steam and was good to go. Same principle will work with amazon.jedikevin2Yeah, jedikevin2's most likely right - the entire game is linked to Steam, so Amazon 99.9% chance will just be giving you a Steam code and a DL link that points to steampowered.com :P. It's what D2D does with this sort of thing, at least.
[QUOTE="Roris0A"]The game is Steamworks - it doesn't matter where you buy it, it's being activated and run via Steam in the end. Yeah I know. I was just saying that every digital distributor had a special on Shogun 2 in order to give an incentive for people not to buy it on steam eliminating their cut as basically the middle man. For instance Gamersgate had the $15 in house store credit when you would preorder it from them and D2D had 20% off with a coupon, and now Amazon flat out cuts 20% off at release. Unless people wanted the exclusive TF2 hats that steam was offering over savings, it was a pretty big incentive to buy it from the other guys. With this being just for the Digital Version, as the Hard Copy is stilll $50, I think Amazon is just trying to get a cut of the Digital Sales as Shogun 2 is topping the Charts at Gamersgate, Direct2Drive and Steam ever since it released.
