Too bad it's 5 gigs, will take a few hours before I can play it :(

I think i will pass on it for now, i'm not waiting 2 hrs with a chance i may not be able to run it on my laptop. I know i can play empire on low. But i'm not sure how well opitimized shogun is.
"To cut the size of the download down to something even remotely acceptable for a demo, we have had to make all battles, apart from the three tutorial battles and one big historical battle, auto-resolved battles. We did this because the data files involved in creating the battlefields are very large. The demo version of the game for example is approximately 5GB while the full version of the game is approximately 15GB."
Translation: our AI still sucks so we won't show any unscripted battle
:P
which is the same size as my Empire folder. Hell, even medieval II with the expansion takes that much...Rome is close"To cut the size of the download down to something even remotely acceptable for a demo, we have had to make all battles, apart from the three tutorial battles and one big historical battle, auto-resolved battles. Nice! Downloading now.
I know 5 gigs a lot, but everyone has to download it. I think it will restore a lot of faith in Total War. The battles are pretty intense.
I like how everyone makes a big deal because it's 6GB. I mean come on, you can easily download that in a few hours while you do something else, it's not like we're still on dial up.

Actually from what I've seen on the TW forums by people who have played the pre release version, the ai is supposed to be pretty decent(ex allied ai seems to react and adapt to what you're doing instead of charging at enemy). We'll see though.
And of course steam freezes while I'm downloading. Gj on putting up like 4 billion patches Valve .
Cannot get enough of the demo (:
Dont like many tutorials, but this one is fun, even though I know the stuff they are teaching you :P
Now we have to wait though for the full game ): I kind of wish I didnt play the demo now because now I want the retail version sooooo bad ;)
demo is awesome, annoying that i couldn't put on aa but otherwise had everything maxed. played the historical battle & some of the tutorial - was very impressed with performance, was noticeably better than empire total war
also, starting with the battle map i was a tinch surprised when the other army was actually aggressive - maybe its just me thinking it, but it was intense...and the HATS
It's not that good. There's still some pathfinding issues if you observe the enemies with guns trying to cross the river. I wasn't that impressed by combat either. Cavalry charges, as well as bowmen, are too weak while the katana samurai are stupidly strong. I had hoped for better, but it looks like CA still can't top Medieval 2. On the plus side, the graphics are beautiful. It was cool that people can betray you and stuff and appear out of nowhere, but it is a sad attempt at creating difficulty. Historical battles in TW games have almost always been more difficult than your average battle on very hard, but this one was still kind of too easy for compared to some of the battles in Empire and Medieval 2.
EDIT: Just realized how stupidly underpowered the spear units are. They make my strategy of spearwalls useless :(
I guess too many people hated getting destroyed by someone who knew how to use spear units online.
I prefer the Grand Campaign Style of play and im guessing this is a battle demo so im not too interested.

I believe it has a campaign tutorial with the Chosokabe. I haven't tried it yet though.
I got owned in the historical battle. I'm awful at these games, and the scripted demo ai and the huge disadvantage the Toyotomi had(screw you Hideyaki) in the Battle of Sekigahara doesn't help :P. Overall, It's pretty fun.

Spear walls are mainly effective against calvery.

Yes, but they should also keep melee at bay as they have done in previous games. That coupled with the incredibly low stats of the spear units make me feel that spamming katana samurai will be an easy way of beating the game at any difficulty.[QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"][QUOTE="shakmaster13"]

I haven't played the demo yet, but maybe there's a military research that allows for a formation that easily breaks spear walls? I do hope they aren't too underpowered. They're major weakness is supposed to be mobility and flanks/rear.[QUOTE="shakmaster13"][QUOTE="JangoWuzHere"]Yes, but they should also keep melee at bay as they have done in previous games. From my third play through of the historic battle, their weakness seams to be everything that isn't cavalry charging at them headfirst when they have a spearwall.Spear walls are mainly effective against calvery.

That is true. Looks like i may be waiting for a steam sale to get it.

Yeah, I don't like the campaign tutorial that much. The Chosokabe aren't the most interesting clan to me, and I'm not really a tutorial person. I'd rather be clueless and figure out things myself, using google in extreme situations of stupidity.
I'm impressed with this demo. Technically stunningwis3boi
No, not really. It's no better than Empire.

Wis3boi is entitled to his statement... Random statements of "no its not" is a bit saddening the see in the Pc & Mac games forum.. Everyone is entitled to their opinion.I don't really care for demo's... The major thing on this game will be castle attacks, air/land battles etc. Def gonna be a great game for me.. I loved shogun total war and sadly its extremely hard to make work on any new computer... Can't wait to head back to the shogun Era.
Its a tutorial people, come on now. A dang fun one that that, but of course it is goign to be scripted.
Game runs very well, the controls are good, cant wait to play this game.
The graphics are also nice and its not even dx11 in the demo. Hate waiting till the release for this now ):
I think the tutorial is nice for beginers to the series to get a hang of everything. Just a small tease to me but it made me wnat it even more now.

You can compare the two games side-by-side and it's clear as day. Same engine, same effects, and pretty much the same thing overall.
