I'd go with Rome. That game will last you for years. I'm still playing it today and it's still absolutely awesome. Tons of mods can also be downloaded.
Those are all great RTS-R:TW is a great TBS and with huge RTS battles-AoE I and II are pretty old but really fun ... and they rule in LAN-Blitzkrieg is very good but I would go for the above games ... but if you like WW2 rts then please go for this game
