I just got my PS3 controller working with my PC, but I dont like it. I once borrowed a friend's 360 controller and it seems as though it's way better. It recognizes the controller right away and the default button config seems to be right on. It was good with Dead Space and Fallout 3.

I tried my PS3 controller with POP4 and it seems okay. But I tried it with Indigo Prophecy and it freakin makes the game lag like crazy, but when I use the mouse and keyboard, it's so smooth. So Im thinking for some reason the PS3 controller affects the smoothness of the game. (I didnt have Indigo yet when I borrowed the 360 controller, so i cant compare). I also tried it with Fallout 3 and it doesnt seem to work at all. For Dead Space it works, but not all buttons and the ones that do are really messed up as buttons arent appropriate for the certain actions.

So is this everyones experience too with both controllers for the PC? Im thinking of purchasing my own 360 controller because the PS3's doesnt seems all that great with the PC.

If you like the 360 controller and don't like the ps3 controller and you have the money, you should by it. BTW there is no reason we should have to make that decision for you.

if you don't mind wired not really worth it. just google sixaxis.exe if you use a 64bit os you will want to get a 360 controller as ps3 controllers don't worth on 64bit os.

Xbox 360 USB controllers work perfectly on Windows. I use mine to play Madden 08 and the game automatically saw it and recognized it and the button mapped automatically to the same configuration as the Xbox 360, including the same button symbols over the receivers.

All "Games for Windows" are 100% compatible with Xbox 360 USB controllers, as far as I know.

if you like the 360 controller for sure get it but the ps3 controller will work in any game with the x360 controller emulation. just stick the files in the game root folder and any direct input controller will work fine in every game that support x360 controller http://www.vg-network.com/2008/10/15/xbox-360-controller-emulator-v10-for-pc-games-using-xinput/

This is a bigger advantage than it sounds like. When playing PC games with a controller there are limits to how you can map buttons to game functions. Often, it's not possible to recreate on the PC the same sort of experience with a controller that you would get on a console counterpart because button mapping isn't versatile enough to match what the developers created for the console version (i.e. context sensitive functions, press/hold functions). Games that support the 360 controller standard use the exact same control scheme as the 360 counterparts.

That being said, not all "Games for Windows" do this. FEAR 2 has no 360 controller support, but it can be approximated pretty well with X-Padder. Mass Effect's control scheme and menus were redesigned for PC so there's no easy way to map a 360 controller to it. Oblivion (pre-games for windows) has no real controller support at all and according to the documenation was designed for KB/mouse on the PC.
