i cannot decide the between the two, so basically i want to know which game has more people online, because that essentially is the reason i want to buy it. also if you think one game is better than the other let me know why so i can make a decision :D
I expect that 2142 is more popular.. it has a very active community and a bunch of people that moved on from BF2, whereas Enemy Territory was a bit of a flop at release. I played BF 2142 a lot, and I have played the ET demo a bunch, and comparing both game styles I much prefer 2142. There's a better sense of teamplay and team involvement than in ET. It's also more of a gritty soldier game whereas in ET you can run around a bunch, jump really high, use jetpacks, etc. There are demos for both games, and both of the demos use good maps, so try them out and see which one you like more. I'm sure there will be even people playing either so that you won't have any trouble finding a game.
I would also recommend BF2142. I've only played the demo for ET, but that's all I could really handle. I like the weapon upgrade system in place for Battlefield, gives you a goals to go for, makes the game last a bit longer imo.
I own both and they are pretty different, Quake wars is completely objective and class based where only one class usually can complete an objective like build the bridge (Engi) or hack the sheild(Covert ops), it has less people to play with (Servers that are ranked are 24 and 32 is unranked compared to the 64 player max of BF games). They are somewhat different in the way you play as well, if your team is crap in QW and you are on D, you can lose in five minutes. There are twelve QW maps and I beleive more BF 2142 maps and since the delux edition comes with Northern strike, bf2142 comes with 3 more maps. I would go with Bf 2 or 2142 if i were you , unless you like the demo for ET.
2142; i was so syked for et:qw until i played the beta, don't get me wrong the objectives that used certain classes in order to complete and squad based tactics were nice but thatis if you can get a good team together.
BF2 and probably 2142 are full of cheaters with aimbots and other stuff that punkbuster does not seem to pick.

At first in bf2 it was cool fun but after a while i got upset because of the cheaters...the game is the coolest...of them all
i have bought 2142 and found that it was a desert and almost no one was in the game.
I also played ET and found that there was a lot of people..awesome graphics..but the maps are working the same way as BF2..you get tired of them fast..
BF2 is better but full of cheaters..you decide what you want to do...tons of people still playing it...i go in once in a while when i feel like shooting live idiots...lol
I like both even though I only played Quake Wars demo but I would pick Bf2142 cause you have goals in the game in form of new unlocks and I like that.It gives you a reason to play.
One last thing with the unlocks, BF you unlock weapons each time you level up with the flaw that the assualt(semi medic class) cant rez people and you do not have grenades off the bat. You can unlock player abbilities though and a lot of usefull weapons like a sentry for the support class or the abbility to go invisible for the recon/sniper class. Quake wars uses a very different system where you level up only in the 3 games you play in the campaign. When those games are over you start over again, this is good in the sense the invisible guy with mines and a advance sniper rifle doesn't play the guy who just started , but is bad in the sense that you need to do a lot to get some of the unlocks and at the last map you might unlock the self arming mines or some good stuff to have them go away the next game.
2142 is way way way way better than ET, i quit ET after 10 hours because boring maps, vechiles, gameplay, combat. 2142 is probably the best in BF series.
ET sits much more heavily on teamplay, which can be bad in a random pub server where there isn't much teamwork to be had. BF (compared to ET) is more run and gun, bigger community. I like 2142 more, but ETQW does have its merits.
I thought both games were very disappointing. 2142 was basically just a BF2 mod and Quake Wars has mediocre graphics and is very unbalanced. If you're looking for team based FPS BF2 is still the better game than either of those.
