I like both games but I would go for batman. Although it really comes down to whether you want your multiplayer first or if you want your Singleplayer first.
After playing both games, I have to say Batman is much more polished and fun. It is so fantastic, and kind of Metroid-ish in a weird way. I love it XD Can't wait for the PC version :D
section 8 needs a big community to be worthwhile and from what I gather it will not achieve this. I don't think it's a bad game per se. I just think it's not good enough to draw the masses away from the other mp games. It doesn't seem high profile enough, doesn't really define itself and doesn't build off a good franchise. It is a bit of a shame because of the Tribes like gameplay. Batman looks pretty solid and doesn't require any community to make it better. Try the demo for both if you have the bandwidth.
