I've never played a single game from id software besides Doom, and I just saw how great a deal the id super pack was on Steam.

It includes the following games for a nice price of $63: Commander Keen, Doom 3 + expansion, Doom 2 + master levels, Final Doom, Heretic, Hexen, Hexen 2, Hexen: Deathkingsof the Dark Citadel Quake w/ 2 mission packs, Quake 2 w/ 2 mission packs, Quake 3 Arena, Q3 Team Arena, Return to Castle Wolfenstein, Spear of Destiny, Ultimate Doom, and Wolfenstein 3D

Considering the games would cost $214 on steam if you buy them individually, it seems like a big savings. People who've played these games, are they worth spending my money on?

Sure it's a great deal, lots of good old games. You should buy it if you don't mind playing older games with bad graphics.

For the original Doom, Doom 2, Heretic and Hexen you can get modified engines like Doom Legacy, JDoom etc., that improve the look of the graphics. For Quake 1 & 2 you can also get upgraded engines from the community, like Tenebrae for Quake 1 and others for Quake 2, that improve the look of those games.

I'm not sure if these engine mods would be compatible with the Steam versions, but they work for the original versions. That is how I play the games when I feel the urge to fire them up again.

If the OP is unsure about whether he will like these games, I would recommend trying out the demos for some of them. Personally I've played nearly everything in that pack (except Commander Keen), and enjoyed them all.

I'd pay $63 dollars if all those games weren't free.

if you like playing older games it's great, but personally I'm think most people would play these a few times and then move onto something new.

If they threw in Quake IV and dropped the price by $20 I'd bite.

Codename33

You're spending your money of gaming excellence and gaming history.

Most of the games on the list are FPS games but one of them is a platformer.

Doom, Doom2 + master levels, Doom 3, Final Doom - Need on introduction.

Heretic - is an FPS based in a more medieval fantasy type setting.

Hexen, Hexen: Deathkings, Hexen 2 - is much like Heretic but with more focus on puzzles.

Quake, Quake 2 + mission packs, Quake3 Arena, Quake3 Team Arena - Need no introduction.

Wolfenstein 3D and Spear of Destiny - Wolfenstein is considered by many to be the Grand Daddy of the FPS, although not the first FPS ID release but it certainly made people take notice.

Return to Castle Wolfenstein - The sequel to Wolfenstein and a fantastic game.

Commander Keen - A early platformer from ID and a very good platformer I might add.
