Intel Pentium D E2220 2.4 GHz (never overclocked),
2 gb G.Skill DDR2-800 Ram,
MSI factory modified motherboard - P6N-SLI Platinum (sli capability is disabled on this board, board BIOS is made by Fujitsu-Siemens and does not have overclocking capabilities).
Nvidia XFX 8800GT,
OCZ StealthXtream 600W Power supply,
Western Digital 250GB Hard Drive,
Antec 900 case (has some scratching on side panel),
Asus DVD-ROM (not dvd-rw),

I currently have a P4 3.0 GHz with HT (DELL) and my friend says that a pentium D will be basically be the same as a P4, is this correct?

I want to know if I should buy this for $300 since I'm on a tight budget anyways or wait like another 2 years for Core 2 Quads / i7s to be cheaper

I can always swap out that CPU also since i think it's a LGA775

hell anything is better than my current rig with AGP, yes AGP graphics (radeon 9250, YEAH)

Let me know, thanks

Looks like a decent buy actually, because inthe future if you wanna upgrade you can reuse the Case, HDD, OS, Optical drive, PSU (maybe). And fur now itll play just about any game

So I'm assuming that Pentium D is actually a bit better than P4 and that my friend is wrong?

Pentium D is basically two P4's together (it's a dual core). That rig is excellent for 300 and can handle many games.

yes indeed.Pentium D is faster than P4 but is moorrree HOT than P4.At idle,P4 at around 30'C, P4-D idling at 50'C.Also,Pentium D have a greater TDP than P4.Some synthetic benchmark show Pentium D 2,66Ghz overpass Pentium 4 3 Ghz easily.

Its not actually a Pentium D in that rig, its a Pentium Dual Core. Not much difference in name but the performance is much better.

Yeah that's a great buy. And your friend is misguided. The video card/PSU/case by themselves are probably worth $200, and that's without everything else. And I'm pretty sure you could find a better BIOS for that board that didn't remove SLI (why would anyone do that anyway??).

For $300, that's a reasonable price and a considerable step up from what you have.

Looks alright. That Pentium E2220 is pretty fast for today's games. It's just a neutralized E8XXX-based chip. However, I would replace that with a E8400 right away.
