I know the subject is about a console and this is a PC hardware thread but I think you guys might have more knowledge. My standard warranty on my xbox 360 expired last year in march, and recently its been making some pretty funky noises when i turn it on and when I run a game. It used to be realtively cool, but now gets warm during gameplay. I think it might be due to dust and I want to crack it open and clear out the dust, will and air can do? also the standard warranty is expired however IDK if my xbox 360 is covered by RROD or E74 considereing this was purchased back in 2009. Help me out guys, give me your input.

Also quicknote, it is a Jasper chip model, and would it be at all possible to upgrade the fans in this xbox, like some small 80mm fans?

I've not had a lot to do with 360s, but if I was in the same situation, I wouldn't hesitate in ripping the thing apart. If you're confident you won't break anything, go for it.

I had to open mine once. It was constantly overheating, it was a super hot week. Had to use a vacuum to get rid of all the dust. Anyways it's not too difficult. Although be warned, MS will never accept it if you send it in for repairs (even when paying the $100 fee)

The RROD warranty is 3 years from the purchase date.

I would open up your 360 and blow the dust out of it. It's very easy to do and only requires one tool.

It will void your warranty but I've sent them in for repairs hacked and without a warranty sticker and got 2 back fixed :p

Ive opened up two 360's in the past and both were almost completely dust free and both died from RROD.
