I want a really good system that I can play on the highest settings with a 19 inch to 22 monitor. But do not want to spend more than 1300-1800

get a duo because there usually much faster than a single one also the 280gtx is a great card if you got the money but i heard some its kinda big and it would take 2 4850 to be close or even faster than the 280gtx but still cheaper thats if u have 2 pci-e slots and a good mobo

No, one powerful card is almost always better than 2 in crossfire or SLI. For the best single card solution, go for the 4870X2.

One powerful card is generally more stable than 2 (that goes for cards that are basically 2 cards stuck together like the 4870 x2) since good driver support is usually faster. There's less heat produced, less power used also. SLI or Crossfire may doesn't always guarantee that both cards are utilized. I'd go with the gtx 280 or 4850 x2 (ATI has some good driver support for their dual card GPUs).

one powerfull card is always better then dual cards..

1. more future proof cause if your planning to get an sli mobo then go with 280 since u can make it dual in the future..

2. less stuttering

but ive seen dual 8800's beat a single gtx 280...

LOL, but the 4870X2 is just Xfire on one board!

The 280GTX is the best single GPU solution performance wise, for value get either the 4870 or 260GTX 216core

1 card is always better than 2 cards at the same total price. Secondly since the 1 card is better you can go much longer till you need to replace it. And why upgrade the 8800 GT you can still play any game out right now at high settings.
