I thought Bioshock was an awesome game, literally spent like $600 on hardware in order to max the game out :P Now Bioshock 2 has been out for quite a while and the game seems to be a dissapointment compared to the first. What do you guys think, should I give this game a try?

It's not disappointing, but some people have this weird notion of it being "unnecessary" and put Irrational on a pedestal for some reason. The combat and level design are far, far better than the original's. The story is good and wasn't already done better in 1999. It gets better and better as you keep playing, unlike the original, and has a great ending section.

You missed the $5 sale you know. Even if it were a mediocre sequel, it would clearly be worth $5 especially since you liked the first.

The thing about Bioshock 2 is that while it is technically a better "game." The experience overall is far far weaker. The areas are far less detailed(some look ugly even), the characters are not as interesting, and the story doesn't really have any major impact like the first.

I did not think Bioshock was a good game, but the experience was worth it. We have a "slightly" better game here, but the experiance is not good enough to make the ok gameplay slide.

Well, BioShock 2 is, in some areas, better than BioShock. It has better gunplay, the ability to use plasmids and guns simultaneously and the story has more of an emotional, personal impact. But in terms of level design, complexity of story and the overall Wow Factor, BioShock is a much better game. It has this innovative, alien feel to it that BioShock 2 lacks just because it shares the setting with the original, a setting whose whole novelty wore off by the time you've beaten the first game.

It's worth playing if you liked BioShock, but it is a bit underwhelming.

Bioshock 2 is the superior game. The story is tighter, the gunfights feel more satisfying, and they did away with the asinine hacking system of the first one.

BS2 is good fun for sure. Only reason its not as good as BS1 to me is because I've 'seen' the environment already. Still nice to play and revisit the awesome world of Rapture. Lots of atmosphere in this game which I really like in shooters.

It has GFWL integrated into it... That alone would keep me from getting it.
