I can't decide, the game looks better on Pc ( obviously ) but I can't judge how it performs on Pc.
I'd be able to run it at medium settings.
so pc or 360 be it?
thanks

It really depends on how beefy your rig is. With a decent computer it'll look better, you'll get a higher framerate at a higher resolution. It's not a great port though, you saying that you'd have to run it at medium settings, if you don't mind auto-aiming, I'd just get it for your xbox.
My specs are not awesome nor bad.
I have a Core2Duo 2.5 Ghz, 2gb Ram, Lcd 22", 9600 1gb, windows vista
if you have a decent graphics card and a quad core get it for pc. i have it on both. it looks like crap on consoles compared to pc

Get it for XBox360 then. Seriously. It will run like crap.
so the patches did nothing to fix the performance issues?so the patches did nothing to fix the performance issues?Metroid_Other_M
The patches broke more than they fixed, the latest patch introduced horrendous graphical bugs. I would say on your machine you should just about get "console quality" settings on GTA 4. By that I mean low/medium settings running on 1280 x 720 @ 30fps. You should be able to play GTA 4 fine on the PC but expect console quality graphics along with all the bugs that Rockstar can't seem to eradicate after 5 patches and a years work.

just out of curiosity? what's the worst part about my specs? cpu? gpu? Well, to put it simply, you have only 2 gigs of ram, a mediocre processor, and a weak video card. I would suggest not upgrading anything and just start fresh with a new rig if that's what I think you're implying.[QUOTE="Macutchi"][QUOTE="Metroid_Other_M"] so the patches did nothing to fix the performance issues?Metroid_Other_M

just out of curiosity? what's the worst part about my specs? cpu? gpu? For the recommended requirements, you need a Quad Core processor, and 0.5 gigs more of RAM since your using Vista (Vista requires 2.5 GB). Your video card is pretty weak as well. There is nothing "wrong" with your specs your machine should be able to run GTA 4 quite well the problem is Rockstar didn't put in the work and made one hell of a sloppy port. Your graphics card which is an 9600gt is definitely better than the consoles have (by quite a margin too). The problem is your CPU, GTA 4 is heavily dependant on the CPU. So it is irrelevant how powerful your graphics card is it will be bottlenecked by the CPU in GTA 4.
Here is the kicker for nearly all other console ports your PC will handle them quite well on settings higher than the consoles, it is just GTA 4 where it will fall down because Rockstar messed up.
just think I got this card some months ago.. how to waste money for something already outdated. :?
and about my specs, well I wish I knew more about Pc hardware. I thought another gb of ram would solve some things, but considering the also weak CPU... quite some money I need to invest for a new rig!
well thanks
PC is the only option, unless you want to deal with sub-par graphics and controls.
The PC version never gave me any trouble on my 2008ish gaming rig, but I understand some people had major troubles running the game. In any event, its running even better now with all the patches.
PC!

Dude definitely get it on XBOX 360,Very occasionally GTA IV on Pc has had many complaints of may things but most are errors gta iv's installation and startup have countless errors check out the error list for yourself,If you have a gaming PC or good specs you should be able to play but it's taking a small risk so I'd say XBOX 360
depends, I find it nearly unplayable on 360.. it plays well on a pc with a processor that has at least three cores.

Tell you what if you don't believe me that the latest patch didn't fix a god damn thing and actually introduced MORE bugs to the game then feel free to pop along to the GTAforums patch thread. There you will find a 52 page thread regarding the patch and how pretty much everyone is experiencing new bugs with this patch. The foremost bug which was introduced in this patch is the road decals merging with the car tires and interior of the cars.
The fact is the 5 patches Rockstar Toronto have released have done precious little to fix this game :-
Patch 1.0.1.0 - made the game slightly more compatible with some people's systems
Patch 1.0.2.0 - Improved the frame rate but removed nearly 25% of in game street objects.
Patch 1.0.3.0 - Frame rate dropped again but they added back the missing objects and finally got the ticker tapes working that hadn't worked since release
Patch 1.0.4.0 - Did sweet FA except "allign" sold copies with the new gold master they were printing. Oh yeah and I believe they removed gun recoil in this patch because the gun recoil was working with the joypad but not the mouse. So rather than fix it they just removed it from the joypad as well.
Patch 1.0.0.4 - Added TLAD achievements, fixed the biker shadow that had been broken since day 1 and introduced the horrendous road decal bug.
Meanwhile issues still unresolved are :-
Now if you think they have "fixed" everything then I would hate to see your definition of "fixed"
A friend told me that in comparison with the pc version, the x360 version looks better. He was running the game at medium. Anyway i got the game on pc and ps3. The pc has better textures, that is, if you can set the settings on high which require an amazing videocard. However the thing is that no matter how high i set the graphics on the pc. They game still looks like the objects are not bind well together. So get the x360 version and you be fine. The pc version is a bottleneck with broken graphics!!I can't decide, the game looks better on Pc ( obviously ) but I can't judge how it performs on Pc.
I'd be able to run it at medium settings.

It's essentially a 30hz game for me at 1920x1200.I notice some people are saying they don't get any of those issues I posted. Well in that case you are either lying or you are so blinded by fanboyism you refuse to see them. The issues I stated are NOT compatibility issues they are clear bugs in the game. If you have a moon in the PC version then please prove it show us a screenshot. If you don't have your car shadows turn off at 8pm every night in the game then prove it and show us a screenshot. If you don't have ridiculously low driver spawn (lower than the consoles) then prove it with a screenshot. If you don't have the new bug where road textures show through the cars then prove it with a screenshot.
It is my view the people going "oh this game is fine" are totally ignoring the issues with GTA 4 just like most ignored the issues with the previous GTA's. The PC version is such a mess and of such low quality that to be honest even if you have a decent machine you would still be better off buying the console version since Rockstar actually put a bit of damn effort into the console version.
just no, I played it on 360 and thought it performed horribly compared to how it performed on my pc (it was nearly unplayable on 360). I wasnt being nitpicky about the moon, but I noticed alot more cars on the road in the pc version so I don't know what you're talking about. Maybe Ill reinstall the game just to show you how it runs on my system.I notice some people are saying they don't get any of those issues I posted. Erm yes just yes you just need to look at the user metacritic scores to see that GTA 4 was better recieved on the xbox 360 than it was on the PC :-
Xbox 360 version = 98 with a user metacritic of 7.9
PC version = 90 with a user metacritic of 4.5
So Rockstar must have got something right with the console version then  . As for me "nitpicking" isn't it funny whenever someone clearly shows the bugs in the game we are "nitpicking". Did I say it was JUST the moon ? No I said it was one of the many bugs in the game, GTA 4 was supposed to be "all about the detail", I would say the moon is a pretty big "detail" that they missed out. Now you have to ask yourself if Rockstar Toronto missed the moon out of the PC version what else did they miss out of the PC version eh ?
I don't know where you got your car comment from, did I say anything about the number of cars spawning in the game ? I am talking about DRIVERS you know the people that sit in the cars. The driver spawning distance is ridiculously low much lower than the console version. Oh and before you go "well alter your settings" this cannot be changed either with the options or hacking the config files.
You can install the game on your PC if you want and show me (if the game is that good why have you uninstalled it ?), not quite sure how that helps. I will tell you this if I set the game at 800 x 600 put all the settings on low and all the sliders on 0 I get 60fps it looks like crap but hey I get 60fps. Now that is the thing I don't own a quadcore and a GTX 260 so I can play games on low settings. I certainly don't have to play any other game on low settings to get a decent framerate. It is all down to GTA 4 it is an unoptimised, bugged POS and since it has a ridiculously low user metacritic score I would say the majority agree with me.
