I'm sure you'll get other, positive, responses, but, the game is extremely bad, it was developed as a linear MMO, for that reason the world feels dead filled with awkward NPCs that only enhance that feeling, story is by far the worst I saw since Oblivion, dialogues the same, it's extremely boring and repetitive because they didn't care about quality, only length, combat, which gets a lot of praise on the internet, was also very bad with an intentional "stutter" that also made combat annoying. It's not even worth 5$, not to mention your time. There is only one positive thing I can say about it, the pre-order weapons are fun, because they're flashy and extremely overpowered, and because of the same reason the ME 3 weapons made me last around 5 hours into it, the omni blade daggers give overpowered a new meaning, they also cause a lot of explosions.

I have heard nothing but bad things about it and the dev that made it '38 studio', took out a massive loan of $75 Million from the State of Rhode Island to make the game, it sold so badly they couldn't pay back the loan and have filed for bankruptcy and are being invtesigated by the FBI.

The game feels like a single player MMO (boring quests, generic world, etc) . However the combat is really fun, much better than anything Ive seen in an MMO. Its just not enough to sustain 40 hours of playtime.

I thought it was a very fun game. The combat is really fun and sorta like DMC/Darksiders/GoW/ect. There's tons of quests, tons of items, a nice leveling system, and overall the game has a lot to offer. I think some of the criticisms are fairly valid...after 14 hours or so I did loose interest in the game and rushed to the end just to beat it, but I enjoyed my time with the game up until that point.

Pros:

- amazing combat

- well designed loot and rewards

- skill system is awesome and you can respec on the fly

- an incredible amount of content

- a bunch of amusing quests

- art design offers a lot of variety, the sound and music are great

Cons:

- insanely boring lore and story

- low level cap (40), but this is somewhat compansated by the ability to respec

- it's too easy

BHG was working on a patch and it may or may not be leaked and finished.

The combat was fun, and had a lot of looting.

Levelling is fun, but there is a level cap, you top out at Level 40.

One thing I did appreciate is that the game doesn't crash.

Well, It is pretty average. Its ups are a better then average combat system, but not by much, fairly interresting builds, and so so envioments.

But it has horrible generic story, npcs and monsters. and indeed plays like an SP MMO.

All things said, I do think you should buy it if you find it at 20$ or less. It is average, I consider it a 7. I had fun while I playied, and that must be the most important part.

It just wont be mindboggeling nor deep.

but then again, there have been very few games I would consider good rpgs this gen, good games, sure, but horrible RPGs. So if you are looking for a pretty run of the mill, kind of RPGlike one player MMO to kill something akin to 30 hours or so, it is somewhat worth it. Just don't expect anything that will be a benchmark.

Heck I even think Darksiders 2 will be a bette "RPG" and I suspect we all will struggle with calling that an rpg ^.-

I don't know (or care) if Darksiders 2 will be a better "RPG"...but I do expect it to be a much better game :) The first Darksiders was effin' awesome in my opinion, and with the second it sounds like they are beefing it up with all the things I love too (loot, better skills, more open world).

The lore and quests are uninspired and not very interesting.

The builds were deeply flawed; a might-only character can absolutely stomp everything from beginning to end, for the other two builds difficulty is the same in the beginning but quickly and abruptly spikes when you start meeting casters, and fights with two or more casters are extremely difficult.

The armor and weapon crafting system sucks hard.

The rest is pretty good. The combat especially. I also liked the cities.

I'd say buy it when it's on sale.

Oh don't get me wrong, I am lookign farwards to Darksiders 2 ALOT ^^ Point were that KoA is not really a good RPG, it is infact so far down the list, that a game that was not ment to be an RPG, but rather a mishmash of genres and styles, might infact prove to best KoA at its own game. Especially since they harped on the combat in KoA, and Darksiders looks to have that covered much better, aswell as proving to be better in the RPG department. Which is more a sad comment at KoA, not a knock on darksiders 2's ^^

Oh I knew exactly what you meant, I wasn't really disagreeing with you either TBH. The first Darksiders has better combat than KoA in my opinion, and if the second will now have a more open world, loot system, and even a beefier skill system, then yeah, I do agree in a sense that DSII is kind of beating KoA at it's own game, even if that's not the intent. I'd still recommend KoA though, it's not a great RPG but it's a pretty fun game. If the OP hasn't played Darksiders though, I'd recommend it over KoA any day.

What was sad was 38 was making a patch to address some of the gamers' concerns, but for some reason they had to crank out three DLCs first. If they had assigned enough people to the patch, they could have released it at the same time as Teeth of Naros.

If you want good combat, good skill system and some pretty art design get it.

But it does have a terrible story, boring dialogue and annoying characters.

Average rpg, some godo things but some bad things to.

KoA was finished with money from EA and they pushed for DLc instead of patches.

What's sad is that Big Huge Games had absolutely nothing to do with the loan 38 Studios received. All their funding came from EA and the money 38 had before the loan.

Buy it as a piece of gaming history. :-) Former Red Sox player who loves to play MMOs sinks millions from personal savings into his own gaming company, company promptly implodes after first release, fingers point, employees screwed, local and Federal officials get suspicious.

I suppose I wrongly assumed the game would be fun for more than a handful of hours, I was wrong. I will say that I did manage to force myself to play the game for 48 hours but honestly the story, the lore, and most everything about the game was just so boring that I couldn't even finish it.

There is a huge price difference , It is available on flipkart just for 17$ and on steam for around 60$.

http://store.steampowered.com/search/?snr=1_4_4__12&term=Kingdoms+Of+Amalur%3A+Reckoning

http://www.flipkart.com/kingdoms-amalur-game/p/itmd5pw3bstwbfwg?pid=AVMD5PWXGKFWAHCM&ref=7e2acc6a-9f20-4bd8-bc81-e978fb1ad03c

(853 Rupees = 17$US)

.So I am also buying the game because it can't be all that bad for just 17$.

Hopefully it goes on sale for Steam or Origin soon. I thought the demo was fun. I doubt the story is as bad as some say though.

It's not as bad as some other games out there. It's like Kevin Van Ord said, "There's a lot of tell, not a lot of show." Basically it doesn't have the world feel to it like say DA:O or Skyrim. But it beats the hell out of Skyrim on melee combat.

And it's cool when you can take out a NPC the size of the Hulk with a stealth attack.

And then there's Reckoning Mode, which when you go into it for a massive attack, you get the chance to beef-up your XPs given for the encounter.

People who enjoy dungeon crawling generally enjoys a challenge aswell, which you won't find in KoA. The game is very broken and you'll need to skip a lot of content and abilties, severally handicapping yourself to make the game any good at all. Put a few points in black smithing and the loot you find in the world is pretty much useless throughout the whole game.

It's pretty bad though, it's filled with lore but it doesn't feel like you are in the same world as the lore and the story describes. That's pretty awful if you ask me.

I actually enjoy the game and you played almost 3 times as long. Couldn't have been that bad, man.
