I don't find soulstorm quite as good as Dark Crusade. That may be due to the fact that the new races in Dark Crusade interest me a lot more than the new races in Soulstorm.
Howevever, Soulstorm is still a fun and enjoyable expansion with nine races, that should give the game plenty of replay review.

I recommend waiting until the price drops even further because by then there will be a few patches out to address the annoyingly long loading times, the need for the disc to be in play and gameplay bugs / balance issues etc.

The loading which i speak of is ok for skirmish maps but if you're playing campagin it can take up to 3 minutes+ just to load up the campaign map (upon loading up campaign intially, and every time after you have played a mission/skirmish)

Also the quality of the campaign is pretty poor (its like dark crusade but not even improved, just made bigger but divded out badly, poor story generally just seems a rehash of Dark Crusade) so the emphasis is very much on multiplayer.

yes, just wait for DOW 2, i played the demo for soulstorm, and got extremely bored of it with the first 5 minutes of playing, but if you really do want to get it, then i reccomend as others before me have to wait until the price drops, it's not worth downing that amount of money for a game that's well not even worth that ammount

Depends on how long you can wait. I don't think I could, even though DoW 2 is going to be awesome! Much better than Starcraf... Sorry, I didn't mean to bring that up in a DoW thread.

Forget all that about loading times, it depends on your system and how full your HD is. Like with any other games. As for the Cd thing, that shouldn't be that important... If it really is then download a fixed exe from somewhere.

I'd say it's worth getting if you REALLY want what little change it has to offer. I have soulstorm, but the main thing i like about it is more races to emaciate in multiplayer. It depends how willing you are to part with the money I suppose. You can order it for 15£ with free delivery from HMV.

If playing as either of the new armies appeals to you, get it. If they don't, don't.

I'm surprised to hear you need the disc in for Soulstorm as in the DoW series, and CoH for that matter, that has generally not been the case with the original games or expansions.

However you can buy they Soulstorm expansion on Steam regardless of whether previous expansions or the original are from Steam or Hardcopies then play using Steam's Soulstorm without needing a disc.

WDT-BlackKat

Disc-checks were actually present for all of the above games initially (as well as other THQ-published games like Supreme Commander and its expansion), then later patched out. It wasn't a straight-out-of-the-box feature.

I imagine the same will be true of Soulstorm - give it a month or two and I bet they'll patch out the disc-check.
