I purchased it at release but gave up very early on because of how buggy it was.

1. Is reinstalling it worth the effort?

2. Are there any "must have" mods?

3. Do i have to patch it bit by bit or can i patch the latest all at one time?

thx in advance.

1) Yes. It's a great game. Patches fixed all the supposed bugs it had (I never had any, even at launch).

2) Beat the game before putting mods on. But yes, Oblivion Lost is a must have mod after you beat the game.

3) I think you can do the latest without the previous patches.

I just recently picked up the game on the cheap after some Clear Sky screens caught my interest. If you liked the core gameplay (RPG+FPS) I'd recommend intalling it again as I didn't come across many if any bugs in 10+ hours.

Personally, I never picked it up because of the RPG elements (not a fan) and graphics engine woes (low FPS, no AA, ugliness). When I did finally pick it up, I was content with the graphics (even as a visuals whore) and bugfixes but the annoying RPG elements (item gathering, inane busy work) and proved too much. The difficulty and unrealistic damage (20+ bullets/enemy) didn't help either.

Yup, still a trash game. uninstalling. Ignore topic.

I gotta agree with godlovesdead, the TC fails for not even trying the game. Personally I think the game is great and definately a cult classic, but my main problem with it are the INSANE amount of bugs in the game. Hell, I can't even finish a important side mission (killing duty members for freedom) because the game won't register that all of the guys are dead.

wow...what's with all the defensive attitude? the TC didn't try? apparently he gave the game one chance too many already. it's really not his fault that your fav game crashes even after all the patches, you know, lol.....and save me the trouble if you're gonna tell us you have no problem with it. guess what? that's your case.

anyway, i'm not here to diss the game....but the TC really doesn't deserve the disrespect in this thread.

The easiest way to make a the game a LOT more playable is to edit the dispersion settings for the weapons. Open the weapon config script files and halve the dispersion settings on the rifles. That's it, no need to do anything else. After that all of the characters in game have more accurate weapons which make the fire fights much more realistic. No more 20 shot sniper kills with a scoped rifle. You can shoot more accurately, but so can they...

Woops. Call of Duty 4 crashes on startup. Game sucks. It's garbage. /opinion.

I doubt he even bought the game anyways.

I have Stalker but I just uninstalled it today. I didnt like it so much mainly because of the graphics. There wouldnt happen to be a graphics-enhancing mod, would there? Like what the cinematic mod did to Half-Life 2.

game crashes all the time, and the situation varies from computer to computer. for all i know, tons of players could be having problem with CoD4 and shun the game. their choice and their loss. but instead of dissing them, i would at least try to understand. but i guess being reasonable isn't everbody's cup of tea. ;)

Yea STALKER is destined to be a cult classic. But uhm suprisingly I haven't found any game crashing bugs, only game bugs or mission bugs or AI bugs

The game is just as stable as any other game once patched. Chances are he pirated his version anyways because I don't know of anyone who buys a game, tries it, gets an error, and gives up straight away.

Still? I honestly never knew it was a trash game in the first place. Don't come to such harsh conclusions over one problem, googe it and most likely you will get your answer.

Its not a cracked copy of the game and its not me failing at computers. Its a conflict with the xray engine and a CTD .dll file for my sound device. I tried 2 different x-fi drivers (old one and the newest version) and it still happens. I even tried manually changing the conflicted file. I tried to make it work when it came out and i tried again now.

Im not going to spend hours troubleshooting my computer to fix a game i barely wanted to play in the first place when everything else i do works fine.

I guess just loading a game and having it work is too much to ask.

I tried for a while to get it working when it came out. I gave up out of frustration and tried again now ONLY because i was bored. If its not going to work with minimal effort i dont want to play it. Im not interested enough to bother. I fail to see how that makes it a cracked copy.

That's cool. I have to try that out. I thought the problem was mostly that the weapons didn't do enough damage.

Thread Kreator, too bad the game still doesn't work for you, because it's a good one. I don't know why people are accusing you of pirating the game. Anyone who has spent time reading about S.T.A.L.K.E.R. on forums knows that people have had bad bugs & trouble getting the game to run. I myself only had one or two weird quest bugs but nothing major.

The Pirate Hunters on this board can get pretty annoying at times.

Don't see why you'd buy a game you're not interested in. It's just silly.

I tried it recently. Really meh game. I didn't encounter any bugginess, although that's probably because I patched it. The graphics were pretty crappy for such a recent game, the dialogue was horrible, broken English, and I just wasn't feeling the gunplay at all. I uninstalled it after about 30 minutes. There are too many great games out at the moment to waste my time with something that doesn't grab me immediately.

Ok to clear this all up Ill try. I just played stalker for the first time but Ive read alot about it. The reason its so buggy is because the studios didnt bother to unbug it before release (really dumb considering it wouldve taken maybe an extra month or too on an already late game). The reason the graphics arnt to 2007 standards is because the game was finished modeling an whatnot a few years before release.

Patch the game. I don't think you should have to buy and then mod a game just to make it fun to play.

If you don't like it after its patched for an hour or so try something else because it gets worse as it goes on.

I would disagree. It gets more fun if you enjoyed the first hour or so. More weapons, armor, missions, locales. Beat the game twice. First time with vanilla version, second time with Oblivion lost and now want to try the Priboi Story mod.

Okay yeah there are a few good shoot outs along the roads and such. But i was specifically talking about that finale. It just goes on and on. It was awful. So generic compared to the beginning of the game.

No offence to others that liked the game, but I agree. The dialogue was terrible. I think a high school student wrote the script.

i did the same thing when i first bought it but have since forced myself to give it another go. im now just slowly making my way through it and the one thing that has stood out the most to me is that for a fps, the shooting is a real let down.

Guns feel flimsy, enemies can take a ton of bullets before they drop and the automatic weapons all feel very similar. Other than that its a bit confusing in places but overall not bad.
