Depends if you're like me and get hooked every time you play. I'm still suffering from withdrawal symptoms, and I quit for the 3rd time months ago.

When I quit I felt no remorse

I get addicted, yes, as you can see with GTA

But I can quit easily and pick up a new game or hobby anytime I want

I feel your pain, I quit WOW then went back for Burning Crusade. Then I quit again and now I'm kind of fired up for the next expansion. Must resist the temptation...

You could also try another MMORPG. Maybe even one of the good ones this time? Sorry, but you couldn't pay me to play WoW again.

I've barely touched WC3 and my guild is at Kael Thas Sunstrider. I wish I knew what all the characters were about. The fight is pretty damn hard.

In June I quit World of Warcraft saying it was really boring. I got all my friends to quit too and I feel if I went back they'd be mad at me. But I really do want to try it again.

Why? Because I just recently picked up Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne and the campaign BLEW me away. I missed so much of WoW I think because of this fact that I just played WC3. I got to 70 sure but I couldn't appreciate anything or had no real reason to raid because I didn't know any of characters (Like when black temple was revealed I said,'Who cares, who the hell is Illidan').

don't play it at all - it takes time and money, well even if it doesn't take time it takes money - kinda stupid IMO, my suggestion go and play some other games or at least some other MMOs such as.....Guild Wars :D which don't take money nor time

don't go to guild wars either. the satisfaction of leveling to 20 in guild wars is nothing compared to hitting 70 in WoW. I went from WoW to guild wars, and it really only made me wish i still had WoW...

exactly it's not about leveling up in GW...if someone want to level up he should play Ragnarok - you actually need to play the game twice with single character from level 1 to 99 and then again all over to have great character......i can't imagine the horror - the endless griding.....

If you quit, you won't enjoy it just because you came back a few months later. Plus all of your friends are gone, which makes it even more dull.

Oh, WoW didn't ruin my life either, I went out often and maintained an A average in school so don't worry abotu that

I notice a lot of people said no but I have feeling those are WoW haters. I've played Guild Wars and no new games appeal to me at all. I could not care less about Crysis or Bioshock or any of those.

If you quit cause of a lack of incentive to raid, but now beleive that your new found love for the lore is enough to re-energise your interest give WoW another chance.

I quit WoW for the same reason, only I didn't take it as far as you did. I didn't know the story so it lost my interest. Instead I went to SWG which is a flawed game but I'm familiar with the Star Wars universe. Unlike you, I didn't give the Warcraft games a try (not a big RTS fan) so I think that you should. If you could get the thrill I know from simply knowing more about the story and environment, then in my opinion its worth it.

Cheers

Listen to the poll, or wtf is the point of having a poll.

Dont play MMORPGS then, play something that takes still and the skill you learn stays with you forever, like CS.

Play the game again. MUCH more fun if you know the storyline, also try to get your friends back into it again. MMORPGs are not nearly as much fun alone than with a bunch of your real-life friends playing with you. Ignore "wow haters", most just hate because apparently it's the cool thing to do...or they dislike rpgs and were expecting something different...or only played until level 20 and thought they had experienced everything...or are bitter everyone left their old MMO to pay WoW...and so on.

sorry I played the original till lvl 60 did the raid stuff plus a friend is still playing (poor him)

but it all comes down to very repetitive gameplay and grinding.

I don't think when you know a little back ground of a few characters would do much for the game

(the boring gameplay is still there and will stay there)

the only thing that kept me going in the beginning is wanting to be the strongest and best equipped (but after hours and hours and hours of raiding and getting better stuff you will never feel good about it because you can always get better.

plus is it fun raiding the same high-lvl instance a time of 20 to first of all have a chance to get a bid on a good drop ?

believe me the game is boring you will never feel satisfied, it kills your time and your life

story or not it won't get better

The reason you enjoyed the strategy game campaign was because there was a story you enjoyed, which is something most MMO's (maybe all?) lack in a big way including WoW. Lore is one thing, its just the setting, an engaging and entertaining story is quite another. I would not look upon your eperience playing the Warcraft III game as being any kind of reason to play a game that is simply about grinding gear and levels with no real story going on at all.

I finally saw the light myself recently after "winning" EverQuest, which took my main about 5 years by the way. That game had plenty of lore and "backstory" but it was all static and never changing really. It's all about the grinding and camping, etc. I don't know what took me so long to recognize how empty that is.

I will not consider any MMO again until I see one that puts the RPG first and the massively multiplayer grinding a distant second. Meantime, I am back to enjoying fun and entertaining games from the RPG and FPS genres where even if story is lacking there is plenty of action to entertain which is a lot more than I could say for any MMO I've seen and I have played most of them at least some.

I am kind of hoping Richard Garriott's slate really was clean and that Tabula Rasa marks a real second generation of MMOs emerging but even from him, I will believe it when I see it.

I say grab another game with a decent story, like a good RPG or else a shooter if you like those. Don't waste your time grinding virtual nothingness until you are again bored because of what it is, nothingness.

Hey, you asked so there you have it. That's what I think. Just say NO to MMOs. :-)

WoW has a story. That is pure ignorance. The story is Warcraft, it continues on from the Frozen Throne. The story is advanced through quests. The game is so in depth and massive that people don't realize it still continues the Warcraft story.

I guess it's good you "say no to MMOs" because you would be more at home with simpler, straight forward gameplay.

You even talk about how bad the lack of story is in the game, but you say how you don't care about FPS and RPG games not having a great story so long as the gameplay is good. Just because you don't like the gameplay doesn't mean everyone else doesn't, so stop trying to troll the forums up, you don't like the gameplay, do as you say, back up your view and don't play MMO games. Obviously there's people that do enjoy the gameplay, the figures, reviews, dedicated websites and income speak for that.

I went back for two reasons:

Someone paid for me to come back for 2 months.

It's the best temporary MMORPG to play until Warhammer Online comes out.

plus is it fun raiding the same high-lvl instance a time of 20 to first of all have a chance to get a bid on a good drop ?

believe me the game is boring you will never feel satisfied, it kills your time and your life

story or not it won't get better

Coming from the guy that gives R6Vegas a perfect 10 lmao.

Anyway, mind telling me what your character name and server was? Or did you forget?

gnome warlock goodoldfart server bronzebeard why ?

plus yeah i have rainbow marked a 10 but I never finished my list or put the right scores there

so why bring that up in the post ?? because what I said a bout wow was true and that you felt bad about it and had to go personal ??

dang go grind dude and get away from here :P

Ok so you're telling us you didn't even like the game, yet you spent all that time playing it to level 60 and even doing raids just to get items.

Not a smart person are you.

World of Warcraft is boring. I did exactly this and I got bored in one day. What a waste of 17 dollars. If you're far you should sell your WoW account for extra cash and get more use out of that.

-Unreal-

sorry I played the original till lvl 60 did the raid stuff plus a friend is still playing (poor him)

but it all comes down to very repetitive gameplay and grinding.

I don't think when you know a little back ground of a few characters would do much for the game

(the boring gameplay is still there and will stay there)

Okay, this is my experience.

This is my second non consecutive month playing World of Warcraft. I play all kinds of genres in all of the generations. I also have a history with Diablo and Diablo 2 when they first came out.

I didnt start WoW until January of this year because I resented the monthly fee. I finally decided if took long breaks between months it would be alright. So here I am at lvl 50 and I have to say the game is FUN.

Sure the gameplay is repetetive, but if you involve yourself in pvp, instances, and the story, the sense of grinding goes away and you get a (false?) feeling of accomplishment everytime you level and get new abilities. The game is deeper than Diablo 2 and there is so much I havnt explored yet.

My point is, go for it and stop listening to the haters. Just buy one month and take a week off and look at it objectively. If you decide youre enjoying it, continue. If not, stop. It works for me.

Oh and by the way, I came into the game already knowing the Warcraft story, and I think it would enrich the experience for sure.

Stay away from it. Learn Spanish or something instead. When you're 80, do you want to look back and say "I spent an entire year of my life playing World of Warcraft"? It's such a pathetic waste of valuable time. I'm ashamed of myself for playing it so much, and I wasn't nearly as bad as the majority of the endgame players.

I go to private school, I learn all that stuff anyway

WoW had no effect on my social life, or academic life, just instead of playing a variety of other games I played one ultimate game for that time which spent the same amount of money that I use for games anyways. So yes, I will open up my subscription again probobly near end of September take a break through exams then start up in December. Thanks for your help fellas.

If you can play in moderation, then yes you should go back to WoW. Its fun and its casual-player friendly.

Its funny you mention story, since just about everyone thinks the story is so bad. They obviously dont read the quest briefings, nore pay attention that what characters their interacting with. WoW actually has quite a good story, and a good diversity of emotions. Sometimes its funny, sad, scary, etc. The issue is that its all just broken up until little tiny pieces, and after a while all people can see is a boring 15-quest quest chain and not a 15-part story.

So ya, go back to WoW, make a level 1, and play all over again!

Awww dont hate the undead, pity them...plus they got cannibalize! munch munch munch! Not saying youre a noob or anything but you realize that the dead elf's (Sylvanas?) Forsaken are not the same as the 100% evil Scourge (arthas' minions, enemy mobs)? The whole story there alone provides some good entertainment, mostly on the tragic side.

If youre going Horde, I suggest either Troll or Bloodelf. Troll is my personal favorite, but Bloodelf is pretty cool (good beginner zones for leveling 1-18 or so).
