not a bad build, but dont forget a decent cooler as the 955 loves to be overclocked from what i have seen on these boards. i got the antec 200 case becasue it was sooooo cheap, threw in two fans at the front of the case and so now it blows heaps of air out the back of the case (plus hot swap sata HD flap on the front of the case.

Get a 650watt PSU and for that money get a bigger case. The 300 is abit small.

A 650W can't handle a pair of 5850's without being put under heavy stress, and the Antec 300 can easily house a pair of them while giving adequate cooling. And since the OP chose a CF capable board in his build, I'm under the impression that the plan here is to bung a second card in down the road.

going from the 955 to 965 would be a waste of money, their nearly the same and you can easily OC the 955. that is a radeon gpu, best around for the price imo. you can save a little by going with 1333 ram, which is the highest the cpu supports anyways

Bad idea... Barely any increase in performance when OC'd plus costs more... Should spend any extra on a better video card when going with a gaming machine.

Look at the benchies. The Barracuda 7100.12 and the Spinpoint F3 500GB are considerably faster than the WD drive listed.

Well the OP only chose 1 5850, and I know the mobo is crossfire mobo, it doesn't mean he/she will actually use it. I recommended based on the specs of now.

Lol link the benches??? depending on what type of bench they are doesnt mean thats how they will perform when your not benching them.

Pardon me not linking anything; I couldn't think of any benchmark that directly compared the two off the top of my head. You could probably find a few, albeit maybe from different charts, though a quick Google search.

xxartanisxx

True, but HD benchmarks give a very good indication of a drive's performance in comparison to other "gaming" or "productivity" benchmarks, mainly because there are fewer variables to take into account. Even if we cast that information aside, I would still stand on my statement that the Barracuda 500GB 7200.12 or Spinpoint F3 will outperform the WD Caviar Black 500GB by a considerable margin. Why? Because the WD Caviar Black 500GB is based off an old, low-density two platter design, and subsequently the access times and speeds simply cannot keep up with newer high density drives even with double the cache size. I don't have any benchmarks to put into my defense (forgive my laziness), but hopefully you can take the initiative to do a bit of research on this subject.

I see what you mean but you cant really just compare the brands though since each drive is slightly different.

http://www.harddrivebenchmark.net/high_end_drives.html

Shows each individual drive and how it performs and its obvious that not all the samsung drives are above the WD's or Seagates but evenly mixed in so theres really no way to compare brands.

And either way scoring 800 or say 500 is a neglible difference in the real world.

guess it's because it's a 5400rpm drive and not as fast as the new 7200rpm drives already mentioned. ;)
