It would definitely be worth checking the first one out, however Darksiders II does take place at the same time as the first one (Haven't beaten it yet so i can't confirm if it goes past (timewise) the ending of the first game)
There's tons of characters / plot lines that appear in the first game that are here as well, you by no means won't be lost but it might be harder to follow..
Darksiders is a fantastic game anyways, so I'd say play it
Edit: My god why does it keep randomly eating my spaces that I put in
The first game is great despite the technical problems that came along with the porting.
I had a pretty good time playing through it with my Razer Onza controller. So my vote would be yea, play Darksiders 1 first.
The second I am holding off to see what the WiiU version will bring feature, and visual/performance wise, before I make the decision on which platform I am getting the second game on.
You're not the only one. Now I wonder if I should even finish it, I only paid 5 bucks for it. Don't let my opinion sway you, not that it would anyways. If you enjoy it, why not. I finished it but I didn't think much of it.[QUOTE="Elann2008"][QUOTE="FelipeInside"]I guess I'm the only one who found Darksiders 1 boring and repetitive...? :(mitu123
nah... besides, the first one sucks in terms of gameplay compared to the second one. i only played the demo of the first game and got bored. been enjoying the second one very much, even that i don't know much about the story (except that Death is trying to save his brother War), since i really don't follow it haha!
i believe there's not that much of a story anyway that you should play the first one. you'll get a nice summary of the events in the beginning of Darksiders 2.

The first one is extremely extremely repetitive. I literallybecame excited when a cut scene arrived because it broke up the boredome...
Maybe for the story sake but the difference in gameplay between the two l probably bore you into skipping it and going on to 2 instead which is much better imoThe first one is extremely extremely repetitive. I literallybecame excited when a cut scene arrived because it broke up the boredome...

how anyone could say the original was terrible is beyond me..... it is one of the best action adventure games made in the last 10 years. right behind darksiders 2 and Zelda Skyward Sword.WizardGlassI guess you haven't played many action adventure games, lol. It wasn't terrible, it was just way too repetitive and boring in most parts. There was a level I remember where you had to kill the same enemies over and over and over and over....I actually let out a sigh when I finished.

Totally agree...the Darksiders was a very good game. Second game is great too, currently 25 hours in so it's a lot bigger game than the first.
*edit*
I've also played TONS of action adventure games as well (been playing PC and console games for 25 years). Honestly I'd put Darksiders almost up there with Ocarina of Time. I think Ocarina of Time had more impact on me when it came out since I had never played anything like it before, but Darksiders darker theme, brutal and bloody combat, and great dungeons/puzzles really impressed me.

It's the sign of a young mind. Kids (or immature adults) typically have very polarized views. Things are either the best thing ever or "garbage" to them.
I just bought Darksiders 2, and decided to finally get around to playing 1. It's not very original. It's very apparent where it draws its influences from, and the game almost shifts to another type of gameplay depending on which game it's emulating. The characters are also far too serious. Despite all that, I'm really having a blast playing it. The parts could use a little more blending, but they seem to work fairly well together. The art style is also pretty fun, and is enough to generally offset the overly serious story and character acting.
I'm fairly early on in the game, I'm assuming. I'm working through the second "temple" type area now. Who knows if I will be completely bored of it by the end.

Combat was one of its weaker points, but I like the lore, story, and setting. Music wasn't half bad either.
If the second one improves on combat, but still manages to keep a lot of the platforming/exploration, then I think I will thoroughly enjoy it.
As I enjoyed the first game quite a bit.

Guess I came across too harsh with Darksiders 1. Maybe "boring" was too strong a word. Look, I gave it a good go. I actually uninstalled it 3 times and installed it again 3 times to give it more goes. I love the Character actually, and the graphics are pretty nice for a console game. The way it tells the story is a bit confusing to me. For example at the start the story goes at a thousand miles an hour and I couldn't keep up, or understand what was happening. It also suffers from that typical console smash up syndrome. I don't have issues killing same enemies, but some levels it was just too excessive. Like I said, one level took me nearly an hour killing the same enemies over and over, just with different attack patterns. Maybe I'm just over those type of "Devil May Cry" gameplay types??? It's good to hear that Darksiders 2 have improved on these things. I still might try to finish part 1 one day, there's just so much backlog these days....
It certainly isn't a really, really fun game either. actually it is... really, really fun. unless you dont like action adventure games... then i can see why you wouldnt like it.[QUOTE="WizardGlass"] i have no idea how anyone could call the original darksiders a "boring" game.mitu123
Look at its name and some gameplay, story is decent, for such a game, it's almost identical to how DMC games go and dialogues are outrageously good because of the voice acting of War and that spirit broker, forgot his name.DanielDust
Mark Hamil did a great job on the voice of the guy that always follows you around, (the one that has your "leash" so to speak)
Too bad he said he won't do another Joker voice over.:( He was the best voice for the joker.

If this game had better combat, puzzles and exploration then maybe it would had be awesome but it's not.
