Hey guys, i just purchased the Witcher 2 and i have witcher 1 on steam, i did play through chapter 1 of the first game and for some reason it was awful, i know its a great RPG and all but i feel like im being draged to death before i get the chance to play the Witcher 2, how long is the first game? will reading the story be enough? also is there anything transferable from the first game to the secound one thats worth going through the whole game? please be honest with me here..

I think it's a must to play the first. Both story and character wise. Witcher is a typical "give it some time" game. Lots of people don't like the beginning, but it really gets much much better. You can transfer your character to Witcher 2

I would say yes, if you have the time and dont mind dated graphics and repeated character models.

The witcher 2 is so dense and political in its story telling so if you dont know the state of the world going in it may be a little confusing. The witcher 2 doesnt explain everything about the world at the beginning, it just goes.

The witcher 1 is a fantastic game in its own right, i would hate for you to miss it. just know, its very long and the prologue and the first chapter start off slow. come chapters 2 and 3 it gets great and chapter 4 is Fantastic. also you can transfer your save from the witcher 1 over to 2. It took me about 75 hours to play through and i did a lot of side quests.

Yes, it's the easier story to understand and get into. It will make it easier to transition into the sequel. One suggestion I will make though is to go ahead and skip most of the side quests. A ton of them are just the 'go kill ten skeletons and gather their bones' types.

I played TW2 without playing the original and I was fine but I did feel a little out of my depth with the story and characters.

I played 2 chapters of witcher 1 and hated it. Played witcher 2 and loved it, and since they basically explain the grand scheme of things over I didn't feel too out of the loop. Though I did feel that way with certain characters, but it was nothing too gamebreaking.

Witcher 1 is a must, as it helps you to understand what's going on in Geralt's world. I didn't mind that it started off slow, as I used it to my advantage (gathering a bunch of plants for potions, killing a bunch of monsters for extra XP). I did the latter enough to reach Level 40 (Master Witcher) by the end. Most gamers finish at Level 37 or 38.

I think you can start off on The Witcher 2 just fine.

I played3-4 hours of the first one and just could not get in to it at all.

Played a couple of chapters of The Witcher 2 now and really loving it.

Sure, there are a few things that you have to work out as you go along, with regards to who the various characters and factions are, but I think everything you need to know is explained to you in the first few hours of the game.

I haven't played Witcher 2, but I thought the Witcher was pretty bad. It's boring and the combat is awful. There's an annoying amount of long fetch quests and the choices are cool, but you really only get to make like 4. I'd say skip it.

Does that mean you couldn't win at melee?:P At least you could drink a potion during melee in the first game - sure can't in the second.

The Witcher is a bad game. Boring gameplay with bland characters that all look the same. One of the worst combat systems I've played. Story was nothing special. The only thing that it did well was give choices that affected the story as you progressed. Not worth wasting your time for one small feature. Trust me I tried to finish that game three separate times but, each time the game was so boring and such a chore to play that I just couldn't do it. Farthest I could get was chapter 3.

The Witcher 2 on the other hand is a very good game with an interesting storyline and good combat. Some people say the storyline is a bit hard to follow in the Witcher 2. I found it quite easy to follow along and much more interesting than the first game. If you want to explore all the aspects to the storyline you'll need at least a second play through. I would say if you're in high school you should be smart enough to follow the storyline.

I didnt really get into the Witcher 1 until towards the end of chapter 2. After that I was hooked. Took me close to 50 hours to complete too.

This. Although some of the sidequests give some pretty damn good rewards they really aren't worth doing unless you're a perfectionist or you're playing on a higher difficulty and need the xp/gold/items.

Read the wiki to get the back story. TW1 isn't worth playing imo.

I put about 7 or so hrs into that game. Idk if its the whole I'm sick of casting spells and fighting fairy tale beasts or what *covers Skyrim ears. I just can't bring myself play that game any more. Dialogue cut scenes lasted too long and the clicking combat was a bore.

Even though you don't need to, you should. Because it's a great game anyway that deserves to be played.

Finish the prologue, then it gets good. Certain aspects of Witcher 1 are much better than 2, it's worth playing.

Very much, because the game isn't just "move from point A to point B", you have reasons, atmosphere, details, a world to explore, things to discover.

The Witcher Enhanced Edition is a must-play. To play The Witcher 2 before it, would be a "crime."
