Hi guys was just wondering is it worth it for me to buy the witcher one so that I will know the story before going into the witcher 2? Cuz I'm really interested in the witcher 2 but don't know if I should get the first one?

Why would you skip it? Did you start Star Wars at Empire Strikes Back? Or LOTR at Two Towers?
IMO people should be banned from playing/watching/reading a direct story related sequel without playing/watching/reading the previous part

Get a copy of the 1st one, its so cheap this days.. I got mine in a bargain bin 2 years ago. Now its still sitting in my shelf unopened. :D
I like to play games inorder but its your choice if you want to play the 2nd game and maybe play the 1st one after. I dont see anything wrong with that unless the first one has a cliffhanger ending?
Totally. I bought the game a couple months ago, and only started playing it near the end of april. Turned out to be one of my favorite RPG's. The Director's cut is terrific, and as other peopel have mentioned, for 5 bucks it's a steal. Play it now, thank me later.

Well, you could just read the wiki to get the story. I didn't like the 1st game. Coudn't stand the combat and found the story too slow and boring. The second one looks to have a much better combat system. I may check it out once the price drops.

I honestly could not get into the Witcher 1, something about it just turned me off.

Same but I'm going to have another go at it before The Witcher 2 releases.
[QUOTE="Elann2008"]Imho, it would be a crime to skip it and then play The Witcher 2. mhofever
Challenge Accepted.
I just found it kind of dull up to the Swamps part.
I'm playing it right now and enjoying it thoroughly. Not even at the end of chapter 2 yet and I'm already hooked. Story is magnificent.
I'm gonna skip it. Have to finish a few console games that I'm gonna trade in. I need room on my shelf for the CE anyway! :D
Just read several reviews and they seem really glowing, so i went and bought a secondhand copy for 8 bucks haha, gonna install it and play tonight.. hope it's really good :)

Why didn't you just buy a copy of TW1 from GOG.com? It's like $5.
That way you're the supporting the developer as well. Here.
The excellent story couldn't save The Witcher 1 from it's godawful combat. I will play TW2 without having really played the first one.
from what I've seen it looks good, not sure if the stories intertwine thoughElitePC
It's a direct sequel, set a month after the events of the first game. Characters and story arcs from the first will continue on in to the second, so I'd imagine that they'll be fairly intertwined.
Anyway...you might be able to follow The Witcher 2 without playing the first, but you'll get more out of the story if you play them in order. And yes, the first game's combat is a bit lame (mainly because it's either completely easy, or you die straight off), but it makes up for it in so many other ways that it's still worth playing (and $5 for 50 hours of stuff isn't such a bad deal, either).
Also, I'm slightly amused at all of these threads about playing through The Witcher 1 for the first time, the weekend before the second game comes out. You've only had four years to play it, guys. :P

It did receive some dodgy reviews, like 67% from PCGamer, wasn't gonna risk buying it until hit hits a low price, which just so happens to be the week before the second comes out. Wish I bought it earlier though, I'm on chapter II and it's pretty enjoyable. The combat's simple but it's not off putting.

Same here :S! i never could get into Witcher 1, no matter how i tried... i got to halfway through the game, and then i gave up... But im getting Witcher 2 for sure, because it looks 10x better than the older one, and the combat/story looks amazing.

It actually got a 90 from PC Gamer....and that was the original game (not enhanced edition).

Nah I mean PCGamer UK further down the page.
I bought the Witcher 1, then upgraded to the EE Director's Cut.
No way I would run TW2 without playing the first one. I rather enjoyed importing a Level 40 Geralt into TW2.:D
