I can't max Far Cry 3 with steady framerates. :( So i'm wondering what would be the better option. Also I have the 1.2GB version, if I buy a 2.5GB one what memory will my computer use. The 2.5GB or the lower one? Thanks!

I would lower the settings for a week or 2 and allow for some optimisation of the drivers before changing a card based on your results of a brand new game. And unless you know of a 570 for sale i certainly wouldnt pay over $250 for one, which would certainly tell me to wait for the 700 to make it worth your while

No. He's better off with a newer GPU that has at least 2GB of vram. 1.2 vram is no where near enough these days when games take up to 1.5-2 GB of video memory. He'd be wasting his money if he sli'ed 570 now. He's better off grabbing a single GTX 670 now and then perhaps another one later, or wait for 7xx.

@darksusperia I run at 2560x1440 with SSAO and 2x MSAA and the game uses at least 2.2GB of VRAM on my GTX 670 4GB. I've seen it reach 3.3GB of VRAM usage.

Are we only playing FC3 though? There are games out there that already hog up more Vram. Why invest something that will be obsolete soon when you could put that towards something better? I would never advise anyone to invest in anything less than 2GB of VRAM. why go backwards with your money?

@1200p, max settings 2xMSAA, I'm hitting max 1.5GB vram on my 580, and that's probably why it stutters lol.

I'm really thinking about going no MSAA.. because I get about 55-60fps consistently. I might even use FXAA.. which I never use in any game. xD

Yet some reported using over 3GB, then again he's using AA and a higher res.

I have an i5-2500k clocked at 4.2GHZ. So technically the lower VRAM will be used?

That's not how it works, VRAM is all gpu dependent and what settings you put on in the game. The higher the settings the more VRAM will be used. Resolution and AA tend to use VRAM the most.

I mean if I have a GTX 570 1.2GB and I buy a 2.GB version to SLI.

Well you have to buy another 1.2GB version then, if you buy the 2.5GB one it'll only use 1.2GB since the previous one only goes that high and will never be able to use it's 2.5GB VRAM unless you get rid of the 1.2GB one and get another 2.5GB one or play with just the 2.5GB one.

Wait. GTX570 is good but the vRAM bottlenecks everything. Get a current AMD card with 3GBs of RAM (or the overpriced Nvidia versions) or just wait.
