I'll leave my more.. honest opinions of the game at the door for risk of being banned or it deleted...
Anyways no don't play it if you want to play a "good" mmo, if you want to play a "fun" mmo by all means =)
what other options do you have though? are you going to play warhammer?
well if there was anytime to start it - it would be now, with a new expansion coming out in 2 or 3 months you could get to 70 before it does ;).
although if you value your social life, stick to regular games ;).
Uhm, I'm not sure about Warhammer to be honest I rather play WoW. Also I'm not that sure because it didn't even come out yet so I would just have to wait and see what scores it gets.I'll leave my more.. honest opinions of the game at the door for risk of being banned or it deleted...

I always here that same sentence that if I play World of Warcraft, I'm going to lose my social life. I would only play for a little while though because this year is going to be my junior year in high school so I would really have to concentrate in my school work unfortunately :(.well if there was anytime to start it - it would be now, with a new expansion coming out in 2 or 3 months you could get to 70 before it does ;).

Then don't. There is very little incentive to play casually, you have to raid in order to be engaged in the content for your $$ worth.
WRONG WRONG WRONG WRONG! don't listen to them it only gets like that if you have an addictive personality and if you don't then fine play on its a good game(but if you do try restrict yourself but then you would not have a addictive personality if you could but meh.). buy it try your free month see what your second opinion is as now you cant trade, get to higher lvls etc. but its true there is alot of grinding involved and higher lvl'd stuff will take up more time but any mmo's higher lvl stuff will take longer
just buy it if you want to its only like £10
WoW was fun until Burning Crusade came out, Then level 70 raiding got super boring and all the good guilds either broke up or everyone became self obsorbed.
So Yeah its fun until you get to 70, theres nothing better to do than raiding when you are 70. Thats a good few months of fun I guess...
No.
1-69, you'll likely be having fun, at 70 you'll hit the brick wall and start questioning why you should continue playing. TBC was the worst thing to hit that game.

It takes away your social life.
Well what game dosen't take away your social life if you play nonstop for hours..fatalbloodfang
The difference is that this game requires you to play nonstop for hours to progress and have fun.
Any serious/hardcore WoW player will invest a ton of time into World of Warcraft. If you hear people saying, that's BS, it's not true, they're probably one of them. The reason why I know the truth, and nothing but the truth is because I was once a WoW Junkie. It consumes a lot of your time. A 4-8hr session a day doesnt even do you justice in this game. It's a collective effort, of playing per say hours a day for x amount of months. There are players that just quest and level and have okay gear (casual crowd) and then there's the more hardcore crowd that raids and goes for the epic gear and all that endgame content.
If you're the type that wants all the pretty epic stuff and you want to gear your toons, then I would categorize you into the hardcore crowd. If so, be prepared to spend countless hours playing WoW. WoW would be all you need too because you wont have time to play anything else. There are only 24 hours in a day, and a good portion of it, you are sleeping. After playing WoW you may cut into those hours if you become addicted. Again, anyone that denies this is probably a WoW junkie. I knew a lot of people who come home from work and they have to get on WoW right away to raid for 3-4 hours, and more if you're in a crappy guild and you wipe a lot, not to mention all the other stuff you have to do in the game. There are tons of things to do. And then you have your other characters you might want to work on.. and if you dont have the time, just focus on one character. I've been there so I know how it works and I know a lot of people that play WoW who will not admit to this stuff because they dont want to come off as a loser, but it's true whether you like it or not. And I mean this sincerely. Not to bash on WoW, because it is a fun game if you have the luxury of time. For me, it lasted for a bout a year off and on, because it started to get really boring and Burning Crusades killed everything for me. Play at your own risk, but play responsibly.

raids on the black temple take a minimum 4 hours to clear teh whole place. i would say wait till the expansion comes out because blizzard will then make the leveling from 1-70 alot easier so that people can still come in and after two months or so of casual play(around 2-3 hours a day) they will be ready for the expansion. if this is your gonna be your first mmo, i would highly recommend it. the game is really fun until you hit around 50, then theres a HUGE grind(maybe 1.5 weeks) to 58, and then you can be on your way to outlands

Yeah, everything is smooth sailing after you hit 55, imo. It's a huge sigh of relief. Everything before that is a grindfest of brutal repetition.

most games don't REQUIRE you to play nonstop, WoW does, and its not pretty...
If you have any type of addictive personality, (which I'm assuming you do if you're posting on video game forums) then no. It will take away your life and you might not be able to get it back.
Seriously though, I thought it was a great game for the 2 years that I played it, but it can be very addictive and will definitely hamper your playtime with other games and of course cut into your social life a tad bit...
If you have nothing else to play then go ahead and do WoW. Even if you don't plan on doing any of the hardcore end game stuff, you'll enjoy going from level 1 to 70 and a few things past that. Leveling is quite fast and not too hard to find a basic guild for help with instances and such.
Personally, I can't play enough in a month to justify the price. I wish they would offer weekly or even daily rates. For example a month is currently $15, if you divided that by 4 weeks its $3.75. I would easily buy a week's worth of gaming for that price. Oh well, maybe in the distant future they'll listen.
