Yes get it!
You can still play it singleplayer, Bots take the other 3 slots, and ive heard they are very smart.

How long do you reckon the SP will last for?!

Well its hard to say, each play through is different as the Zombie spawns are controlled by the Director. I dont know how many levels there are either, ive just seen a bit of the Hospital, Underground and Corn fields.
Plus i can see alot of custom maps and mods being made for L4D so that just extends the gameplay.
Get it and add some people to your steam friends list.
I'll pm you my email to add me :D

Ohhh.....yay.....I can hardly wait, ahem.
I don't see why everyone likes this game. Whatever happened to games with good characters and a deep story? All your doing is shooting infected the whole time.Vilot_Hero
Thats probably one of my main hesistations. MP games dont have the same feeling of accomplishment as SP do!!

Exactly! I will enjoy the %&*^ out of the single player game, but the multi is where the meat is at.

While I can agree with you to an extent, some MP games such as games played as a kind of sport like CS have a much larger sense of accomplishment than any SP game IMO. If you only play multiplayer games as just a casual game experience then yes, I agree with you.
I don't beleive Left 4 Dead is intended to be a deep storyline driven experience as even zombie movie fans know their storylines aren't deep. This is a game that is purely based off a co-op experience which is why I am excited because there have been a lack of good co-op games lately, and being a fan of zombie films/games is a huge plus for me too.
I think this game is a must to be played with real friends or even online friends will do and not just random people from the internet. Being a "co-operative" games you need people you can trust so they don't ruin the experience. I really hope the game is challenging enough for me, because I too like the sense of accomplishment MP or SP.

isnt there a time and place for both types? besides, i think this game will bring a great sense of accomplishment with it, you and three friends fighting for your lives with the zombies and nothing but a few med kits and limited supply of ammo... i know that for me, when i reach the end of a mission that has been absolutely f***ing insanely hard, im going to feel good about it...

This is taken from some Left4Dead info site.
"How long will maps last, and how many campaigns? - There will be four campaigns with around 5 maps each. The Hospital campaign being shown lasts anywhere from 45 minutes to an hour, and the other 3 are expected to be similar"

But, just to clarify, the game is designed with a multiplayer mentality, even when playing singleplayer. Although you can "finish" the game in four or five hours, it's a game designed to be played over and over again. People who mostly play linear, story driven singleplayer games might not get it, but everyone else will be right at home with the concept.
I would say so. Apparently, it was all the rage at PAX.

Long video, but there's some info and footage of Left 4 Dead there.

i would feel more like i accomplished something if i pulled off 5 headshots in a row within 30 seconds in CSS (online OFC), than if i finished the campagin in COD 4...[QUOTE="error11"][QUOTE="biggest_loser"][QUOTE="lambalot"]Yes get it!

Indeed. The "director" of the game will make sure the game is very well balanced and is different everytime you play, creating that sort of "fresh" feeling everytime you play it.

It's like therapy for some.

You've played it for many hours I see...
Do you really want a game where you just go around and shoot infected all day:| I would pick up Mass Effect instead of Left4Dead.[QUOTE="Wasdie"]Get it and play it with some Gamespot people, you will have a good time.Locke562
I know that's what I'll be doing.
Word. Heh, I still remember that night when I was staying up late with a bunch of GS users waiting for the TF2 beta! Good times...
Anyway, I'd say definitely buy L4D. While the 4-player co-op is deifinitely one of the biggest attractions, I think it will still be amazingly fun when playing alone (if killing zombies is your thing). If you have an internet connection and can download mods/user-created maps, then I think this game's longevity will be insane! I'm already salivating thinking of the user-created maps we'll see, even within the first couple of days! :D

exactly super smash brothers had no story, punch-out had no story... but were good games.now my question is... can you play as any of the infected??? not become infected, but just log in as the infected and hunt downt the other "alive" players???? that would be mother f***** sweet

Are you thinking what I'm thinking? What if you could get a perk for a skin disease like dermatitis so you can pretend to be a zombie and sneak around them!? A bit like that scene in the Mummy where English guy pretends to be a zombie!!

hey hey,, that would be great too, but i meant actually playing as a zombie, and sneaky sneakying up on some of the living players instead of just running right into the line of bullets.hey hey,, that would be great too, but i meant actually playing as a zombie, and sneaky sneakying up on some of the living players instead of just running right into the line of bullets.Lach0121
If you feel like playing sneaky-sneaky, you'll love playing as the "Smoker" in L4D. :)

wait what is the smoker? is it one of the living characters?i mean i want to play the game and i will more than likely get it... and play as all the main playable living characters... but there will be the days where i want to jump in as the infected and kill the living players... oh much like a day like today...
From my understanding its a singleplayer game...but online! Like co-op. Isnt that kind of the best of both worlds; its fun because youre with real people, but not youre not blindly fragging other people nor are you worrying about campers and stuff.mrbojangles25
camping is a tactic... but i will not get into that on here... but i am looking forward to left 4 dead, just will wait for the game a while (after it comes out) so it will get enough patches.. well that stands for most of the games i plan on getting.

Wait... are you telling me that you didn't know that you can play as the Boss Infected in L4D?!
You must take a look at Left 4 Dead 411! It's pretty much the best, most informative L4D website out there. That particular link is to the FAQ section.
Enjoy! Just don't get your juices on the keyboard when reading about all the enticing gameplay details, 'kay? :P

"In addition to the hordes of AI controlled infected (reports say up to 40 can be seen at once), there will also be four "boss infected" characters that will either be controlled by AI or by real players, depending on the number of people on the server. These four are the Boomer, Hunter, Smoker and Tank."
