Hey whatsup. Ive played all the total war games after medieval 2, including the latest, Napoleon. Im very interested by the time period Rome total war is set in, but im afraid I wont be able to get into it because of its dated engine and graphics (ovcourse thats not the reason I buy and play games though, but its a big part of the immersion factor.)

it's still a solid game to this day Honestly I started out with Medieval 2 and then tried out Rome. Hosestly I can say I enjoyed Rome more than Medieval 2 Total War. I think it was the time period, the music, and the more unique factions that make it more interesting.

I still think Rome is the best in the series. The controls are a bit different, so are things like diplomacy and there is no research tree, but it's still one of the best stratagy games ever made and it aged extremely well.

Agreed. RTW delivers some amazing battles (even though the AI ain't all that clever unfortunately) and some challenging management on the strategic map makes the game worthwhile for me. I still play it oft-times--and there is a great Mod for it called RTR (Rome Total Realism)

You should have no trouble getting into it honestly. I still think it is the best in the series, though the sequels have improved upon the formula somewhat.

Yes get it, it's well worth it. Check steam, last Christmas I got Rome Total War and Barbarian invasion for only £5. Money well spent.

Definitely try it out if your a total war fan. It was my first total war game and I still go back to it every now and again because it is simply the best in the series imo.

play with the Roma Surrectum mod here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=251

you won't EVER complain about the graphics again

just look at the pictures here http://www.twcenter.net/forums/showthread.php?t=382277

it looks even better than Medieval 2

although there are little annoyances such as the need to activate script in campaign every turn
