the PSU needs an upgrade. Then later a new gpu will be supported.

you're probably fine for at least another year.

but..things you could do:

overclock cpu...i myself have a Q6600 at 3ghz

i had a 8800 GT too....but sold it and got a GTX 260

you might need to upgrade your power supply if you upgrade your video card though

My vote would be to ditch the PSU also, and go with a 1000W with dual GTX260's in SLI if you have an SLI capable mobo, otherwise give it a 750W PSU with a single GTX260. I'd leave the ram and cpu alone. Check out the video card charts on tomshardware.com and see what you think. I was in this same dilemma, and decided to go with dual 9800GTX+'s because I could keep my 880 psu, and still come in ~20fps behind dual GTX260's. I can't tell much difference between 60 and 80 fps anyway... I run everything maxed out and I'm satisfied.

Does your system run games satisfactorily? TBH, I don't see the point of upgrading if your system runs games smoothly at the intended resolution.

Obviously an 8800GT won't cut it at 1080P, but it can easily handle most games at max settings @ 1680x1050 and below just fine. Throwing in suggestions on what component to upgrade is counterproductive, what should be asked is "if" the OP needs the added processing power.

Yeah, get a 1000W PSU so your energy bill can be $50 higher a month. Makes sense to me.

OP, your PC is fine. The software is so far behind the hardware at this point that if you have a Core 2 and an 8800 card or better, you're set for awhile.

Two 8800's would crush the ATI 4890... If you can't get two of them, get GTX275.

What's with the facepalm? Bigger power supply + unnecessary SLI setup= higher energy bill, especially if you leave your PC on all the time. KW PSUs are nasty expensive in the long run from everythign I've heard.

I know most of you guys live with your parents and dont pay the energy bill, but some of us do.

Dude... Components can't use more power than they need. You can have a 50000W PSU but it will use around 400W. And energy bills lol... Who pays attention to $3 more on energy bill FGS?

Obviously you don't pay the energy bill. Mine is around $40-50 higher when I leave my PC running.

And an SLI setup will draw more power. Alot more.

Dinars are the currency in middle eastern countries.

Cheap energy + dinars = I assumed you were probably from Kuwait.

Ya sure SLI setup will consume more power but your comment only refered to the 1000W PSU increasing the energy bill which is quite an epic facepalm worthy comment.

As noted above, you can have a 1000000W PSU and it will only use as much as components need. However a better quality PSU will actually save energy so with a 1000W PSU he is most likely to save energy unless his 500 one is a really high quality PSU.
