I currently have a 4870, a q6600,asus g31 mobo, antec earthwatts 500w PSU, and gskill DDR2 memory. I am looking for a not extremely expensive upgrade in order to play BF3 and notice increased pc speeds. (monitor is 1440x900). should i keep the cpu and get a new mobo, or get something like the 2500k, probably a better case because of cooling, and a new video card?

Well since BF3 isnt coming out until November or so it makes more sense to wait since the new bulldozer chips and AM3+ bords will be out so youcan compare between sandy bridge and BD

For now i think you should be fine unless you've run into some games that give you trouble (besides crysis, metro 2033 etc)

I heard somewhere that all the gameplay so far was run on a computer with a Nvidia GTX 580. I'm assuming they used a gpu that wouldn't have any difficulties at all running it on the best settings. So they probably tried to go a bit overkill. I'm assuming a GTX 560 will probably get the job done on max on par with the likes of a 6850.

System Requirements are:

OS: Windows Vista or Windows 7

Processor: Core 2 Duo @ 2.0GHz

RAM: 2GB

Graphic card: DirectX 10 or 11 compatible Nvidia or AMD ATI card.

Graphics card memory: 512 MB

Hard drive: 15 GB for disc version or 10 GB for digital version

And yes, you should, BF3 is gonna rock and I personally want the best out of it. I'm sure you do too.

I would probably only upgrade your GPU to a 6 series Radeon. However, if you are still using that monitor when BF3 comes out, then you could get by with a 6850 upgrade. Personally, I would not upgrade anything else but the GPU if you are going to keep using that monitor as the performance increase of any upgrades won't be realized at that resolution.
