I've got an opprtunity to buy a new gaming computer with a budget of something around 1700$. The question is: Should I buy a computer now, or wait a few month until all the good games are out because meanwhile the prices of the hardware will get lower.

Wait till around November when the Penryn's are supposed to be released. FYI Penryn is the codename for Intel's new processer that is based on the 45nm micro architecture unlike the core 2 duo's which are 65nm.

Consider that I don't have enough money to buy the newest chipset and graphic card. My budget is for an whole new computer with everything I needs.

Buy now. 8800 GTS/GTX should last you at least for 2 years decently, and than you can replace it for G100. Also wait 7 days and get some nice procesor (E6850, Q6600, E6600....), and your rig should last for some time.

I forgot to say that I will join the military in a year or so. So most of my gaming will be during this year.

Yeah, you are right. Now I should start building the computer. (Should I continue this here, or make a new topic about the specifications of the computer I need?)

For what? Discuss it here, change the thread title if you can. $1700 can get you a pretty high-end rig my friend, if you build it yourself. You say you're joining the military, then just go ahead and buy on the 22nd when the Intel price drops are supposed to happen.

With $1700, you can build quite a monster. Prepare to max out Crysis (I know you wanted to ask that :D ). Don't buy it, build it. Cheaper, and challenging/interesting.

OK, so far I'm quite sure about the next parts:

Processor - e6550

VGA - 8800GTS 320

Next I'm thinking about the RAM, I guess 2GB is great. But which brand and other stuff..I don't really know what to get.

What do you say?

RAM - 2X1024MB 800MHz

Monitor - Samsung 931BW

Now I need to decide about the speakers. Should I get a 2.1, 4.1 or 5.1?

In order to save money I want to go with the 2.1, BUT if you think that there is a hugh diffrence between 2.1 to 4.1 or 5.1 and having a 4.1 speakers changes the gaming experience maybe I will spend another 100$ in order to buy 4.1 or 5.1 speakers.

Hey, just found that my uncle has a discount for the Intel chipsets because he works there . I can buy any chip with 50% off. It makes me thing if I should go with a stronger processor now..
