I would say Gamespot were rather generous, I have seen some reviews of SH 5 where it only got 2 out of 10. However I think most reviewers have settled on 5 out of 10 for the game. They even largely ignored the horrible drm and just judged the game on it's own merits as well. So it is pretty obvious this isn't a "good" game :D
It was probably Ubisofts fault it ended up like this.GeneralShowzer
And it's funny because a few years ago they were one of the premier PC devs. They're slipping.

too much gold under your feet usually does that. *glance at EA*At least EA doesn't look like they are purposely trying to **** up their PC games.
I dont think the DRM had anything with the score...SH5 is a very bad game:

It's going to take a lot of patches and user-made mods to get Silent Hunter 5 into a playable, satisfying state. Ubisoft's track record with this series and the incredible dedication of the game's fan base mean that this is likely going to happen, sooner or later, but for the time being, you would be well advised to get your submarining fix from Silent Hunter 3 or 4, two extremely impressive games that have been well seasoned with patches and mods. Right now, despite the undeniable promise and more than a few moments where excitement and tension make you forget about the many bugs and design flaws, the fifth edition in this series just isn't ready to be released from the drydock.Brett ToddThat's it in a nutshell. Nice review, Brett. I tried SH5 and decided it wasn't ready yet. I caught the silent hunting bug again because of it though, so I loaded up SH4 with Trigger Maru Overhauled 1.9, Run Silent Run Deep Campaign and the KPO (NBC) radio mod. Excellent, excellent gaming right there if subsimming is your thing. I'll check back in with SH5 six months or a year from now to see if it's fit for patrol.

EA tried to do something different and it didn't work. That isn't the same thing as making a game unplayable.

I'm pretty convinced that C&C 4 was an experiment to see if people would happily swallow "always online" DRM as long as they fabricated some gameplay excuse for it. The thing is that they forgot that it helps if the game is actually good.[QUOTE="akira2465"]

O.o - if you are disconnected from the net you can no longer save game progress, that sounds unplayable to me. It is just like Ubisoft's DRM.. only Ubisoft did one thing right in that morass of stupidity that is their DRM - they made it so the game(s) save your progress at the point you are disconnected. C&C 4 just pops up a big error box and will no longer save - you can't even try reconnecting automatically if it was just a hiccup on your end, you have to exit the game you are playing (with no save) and restart it.It's actualy a very good game, I mean 9.0+ quality, the problem is it got released in a state that can be only described as early alpha. There is a real gold burried there, but it will take the devs and mod makers at least 6-12 months to dig to it.
Damn you Ubisoft you destroyed a great franchise whats next Anno? adamosmakithey didn't destroy anything. People are forgetting just how bad SH3 and especiallu 4 were on launch day, the standards for polish have simply risen like hell in recent years. Sh5 is in the nutshell more or less a typical SH..broken and buggy on launch, a masterpiece after a year or two. The biggest problem SH5 has is that it has to compete with SH3 equiped with years of patches and Grey Wolves supermod.
And Anno is fine...Venice is typical quality wise for Anno add-ons and Settlers VII looks like it will be best Settlers since S2

I agree that it's pretty bad though.
The laugh of it is, GameSpot claims that it is going to take a lot of patches and user-made mods to get the game working.
Just a pity that Ubisoft's DRM is going to make the creation of any kind of mods impossible.
