Here's a little countdown widget they put on their site (just in case people don't believe it): http://thesims3.ea.com/view/pages/coolstuff.jsp

Oh well, it's probably for the best.

As a long time Sims fan I'm really looking forward to this game.
I hope they add genitalia to the character models though.8)

It sucks, but if it is to make the game a lot better and fix bugs. I am all for it. :)

Yep, it's better to wait for a finished game rather than have a game full of problems.

IMO its good they take some extra time, since something looked very off about the game in the trailers.

sucks, but the build didn't look ready so thankfully this'll give them time to sort out the slowdown thing so more people can play it.

Not really surprised at the delay itself but the actual length of the delay. Game was due out in less then three weeks and all of a sudden it gets pushed back four months because of bugs? Not really buying it but whatever.

Honestly though I was more upset about the Dragon Age delay. I've read about a half dozen reports saying the game was pretty much done and that testing was going well and the game should be released on time. Now out of the blue the game isn't ready and has be be delayed till the 2nd of the year AKA Holiday season, which just coincidently coincides with the release of the console versions. So now we have to wait till November/December because EA didn't want to risk losing any of it's console sales to the PC.

Was really looking forward to both these games too saddly, just a shame what are industry has become.

For a 4 month delay I expect this game to be so polished I can see my face in it.

Sign this petition if you want the sims3 to be released as planned on the 20th Feb as there is no need for the delay!

http://www.petitiononline.com/sims3/petition.html

No please DO NOT sign that petition, becuase if EA did listen to that (which would be stupid) and released the game early then everyone would complain the game is buggier than hell and EA woudl look bad and lose massive ammounts of sales which right now would lead to more pink slips going around.

EA didn't delay the game because of bugs. EA boss John Riccitiello said of the decision: "We're moving this title to June 3rd to give us additional time to build the worldwide marketing campaign a title like this deserves."

Don't worry. Online petitions never work.

What? Wow that makes me even angrier about the delay.

Probably so they can start making expansions already to continue to milk the franchise as much as possible. I wouldn't be surprised at all if a few months down the line after the release, a new expansion is announced.

From other interviews I've seen the game is in a pretty buggy state. I believe the original rumor of it being delayed came from somebody who straight up said the game just isn't ready yet. So I'd imagine that marketing excuse is just a cover. Even if it is about marketing (I highly doubt Sims fans don't know about Sims 3 yet), it wouldn't be as if they just put the current build in a corner without making fixes to it during the delay.

In the end they are a business out to make money. Fact is millions of people have bought all the expansions for Sims and Sims 2 every 6 months or so, so it would be absolutely idiotic of them to change their current strategy. They're most definitely already working on a couple of expansions, but delaying a game costs money....They're not going to delay their game just so they can work on some expansions instead of releasing the core game when it's done.
