From the specs released by EA you should run it fine probably even on high depending how optimized it is.

Haha my mistake I got it confused with another ATI, sorry. If you got another GFX card it would run fine but thats not so easy on a laptop.

I can run sims 2 on high detail for every option if that makes a difference.

I also found the Sims 3 graphics requirements for laptop were Radeon mobile 9600. My graphics card is ATI Radeon Mobility X2300, it should work shouldnt it?

I think we can expect very high demands on hardware to run Sims 3 on the higher settings. All the sims games has been suckers for hardware on their time of release, and so will also this game be. i think that required and recomended settings wont let you play on anything but low, if you wish fps to be in the 20's for mutch of the game. further out in the game, when your nabourhood start to get crouded, any medium or low end computer will struggle with anything but the lowest fps. that is my predictament, and i think im right too :).

I think that as long as the gameplay is sound then I don't care about the graphics. I don't automatically turn up graphics to the max even when my PC was mid-range. I'm just happy it will run on my PC at all.

Don't ever bother to look at system requirements. Look at Recommended System Setup. Then you will get a feeling of how you will be able to run it.
