TC...let me tell you, a couple of years ago I thought exactly like you.
Somehow I couldn't accept a keyboard as a gaming device ("This is for typing .lol" I thought.)
I was also worried about the lack of sensitivity when using a keyboard. In my mind it was inferior.
It took me about 2 months to get completely comfortable with using a mouse and keyboard however.
Now, after nearly 3 years of PC gaming I am so glad that I stuck with it.
I can safely say without question that using the WSAD keys is vastly superior to a left stick.
Sure, the sensitivity is gone with that of a gamepad, but I've realised that it was never really needed in the first place. With a keyboard you can quickly tap tap on the keys to add precision however, and I much prefer this. Also, because each finger is on it's own individual key, it is actually faster to make a move rather than have to push a thumbstick in the direction you want. It's also more comfortable. Combined with a mouse it makes a game where quick reflexes and precision are vastly easier then the clumsy control of a gamepad.

You wanna know why I became a PC gamer some 10-12 years ago? It didn't have anything (ANYTHING) to do with the games selection thats for sure... Ok, ok, Counter-Strike WAS rapidly becoming my #1 played game in spite of having NES, SNES, N64, and PS I & II consoles, HOWEVER...! XBox started taking over the console market. I got one to eventually (This was when PC gaming really WAS dieing. There was no steam, or other Digitial Distribution method, and retail stores practically ABANDONED PC Gaming evvveryyywhere in the US). Well, These new gen consoles abandoned my DPAD!!!!!!!!!!!!! Remember Gran Turismo 3 for PS 2? You could use Analog or DPAD, I always loved DPAD over analog in every way. And the DPAD was PRESSURE SENSITIVE... Nowadays I don't think they even make pressure sensitive DPADs, let alone give you the choice to use them the way you want (to move around) in button maps. I think Gran Turismo 4 (Which was also on PS 2 just like Gran Turismo 3) forced you to use the analog... or they removed use of the pressure sensitive buttons for some obscure reason. That was the day not only my favorite racing brand died to me, but also the console. I began saving for my first gaming devoted rig then. :)
