Thats not what i meant. Take hl2 for example, it does not explain you what happened, you know what the main character would know without any prologue or explanation on what happend. I would say thats bad presentation since it does not present you anything, it just throw you in and lets you firgure out by yourself. Neither the npcs get the chance to talk to you a bit and explain you what happen. Fear is somewhat similar, after a quick briefing you are thrown into a recon mission to find someone and kill super soldiers all the way with various ghost appeareances and max payne style phone messages that tell the story. The truth is that story does not appear till the end. Also there is nothing noteworthy happening to grab the attention of the player (apart from the scary moments) or any good actions scenes like in half life. Its mostly corridors that you shoot the bad guys without any sense of epicness or duty or an objective. It kinda lacks the cinematic blockbuster feeling that cod has.
As for bioshock, well i guess it has a good story, but i cant say since i found it predictable and not amazing at all since all the plot twists/ outcomes were the shame as system shock 2 and it was like i was seeing the same game i have played so many times for one more time without anything new. So if i pick up ss2 right now i can point out that ss2 has various emails that the player hears and understands what goes on in the ship. Later the player will hear some crew logs and get some story on what happen before his arrival and where did the crew go to get that infestation in the ship and what happen at that moment. While it has a good story, still its not what i was referring to. What i was reffering to is a blockbuster cinematic presentation with alot of action . That only cod 4 has done so well.
What i am gonna say now contains hl2 , episode and cod4 SPOILERS dont read if you dont wanan get spoiled.
Let me make another example. Crysis has the same blockbuster cinematic way to tell a story but it lacks any noticable characters to feel an attachment (like Alyx or Price) and it lacks those explosions or various events that happen in both cod4 and half life. (like the moment the ship is sinking in cod4 and you gotta get out, or when price throws the pistol to you so you can kill makarov, or when you are chased by metro cops in half life 2, or when Alyx's father dies in episode 2 with a cliffhanger) Thats the stuff i was reffering to, all those noteworthy story moments and various events during the compaign that dont appear in nonlinear games such as stalker. The only way those moments can be done is by lineariaty, thats why i liked metro 2033 more than stalker.
