If i'm on the wrong board please forgive me, but i'm tearing my sodding hair out here.
Games that used to run on my pc have all of a sudden hit a brickwall and wont run.
I've tried Farcry, Project IGI 1+2, Call of Duty 2 (multiplayer will work, but single wont) and Command and Conquer Generals+Zero Hour.
All these have run before, but for some reason wont now.
If i double click on the icons on my desktop, the mouse pointer brings up the hourglass, then nothing.
I've tried the msconfig routine of unclicking the process SYSTEM.INI box and the WIN.INI box plus clicking the Hide All Microsoft Services, which did allow Command and Conquer to run.
Problem was when i put the configuration  back the way it was, my internet was buggered and my desktop appearance went all windows 95ish.  A quick registry restore sorted that out but i dont want to keep having to do that everytime.
Besides the msconfig routine never worked tonight for Call of Duty 2.
Has anyone got any ideas or have had that same problem, need urgent advice!!

Done all that and it still wont work.
Theres something conflicting or denying the .exe from accessing. Strange as it will load up the multiplayer version of Call Of Duty 2, but not the single player!

So your saying that ur computer has out of the blue just hit a brickwall and wont run games, or all programs? If that is the case, uninstall and install. If that dont work, virus scan. If none of that works, format ur hard drive and start from scratch. It may be a virus, i dont know though. Sounds like crap though. Srry man

No, the computer runs programs but not those (and hopefully not other) games.
Starting to think its a direct x problem or graphic card driver issue even though  i have the latest updates.
Seems to be the 3d games, but that still dos not explain why COD2 multiplayer would work. Even Counterstike: Source works and Half Life 2 except for that crashes when a bit of ambient music kicks in like the G-Man intro screen....but thats a sound issue....or a steam issue.
