I was thinking of picking up this game due to the severe lack of RTS's coming out in the 2008 holiday season. Starcraft 2 just got pushed back to 2009 so I know thats out of the option. I'm already planning on getting many shooters this year including Fallout 3, Farcry 2, Left 4 Dead, Crysis Warhead, and Stalker Clear Sky.

So you guys think this game can please my RTS needs amongst all of these shooters?

Thanks

Not just that but tactics arn't the pimary thing in the game.. They may give you a slight edge toa extent.. But it is nothing like a rts's you have been playing.

It's a fantastic buy.

Just know that it's a very slow game. I spent 3 hours on a 1v1 game on a small map.

Its a good game. like someone else said its a long game, not necessarily slow though.

I think it would be fun to play online though I havent yet, but playing against the AI kinda bores me a lil.

Sins and decent buy do not belong in the same sentence.

You should be ashamed for having to ask if it's worth a purchase.

That's why I'm not getting it. I love this type of game and I think it looks great but I already have quite a few like this, including the very long Sid Mier's Civilization 4.

Sins is a great game and if you're a fan of strategy games, you should definitely get it.

Something you should recognise though is that Sins is not a traditional RTS and you cannot group it with games like Command and Conquer, StarCraft and Company of Heroes. I always describe it as being more like a real time representation of a turn based strategy game.

Think Civilization, then think how that would play in real time - that's Sins. That's not to say games can't be quick, though. If you know what you're doing, you can play a 1v1 in way under an hour, but a good game will last into the tens of hours.

Mmmm I don't think this is the correct statement to be said of this game.. Sins is not like your typical rts what so ever, some one who loves Dawn of War, Company of Heroes, Starcraft etc etc.. May hate the game due to how slow paced it is, and how little it depends on actual tactics in combat.

Do you have it out for me or something? :P

There are alot of ther RTSs that dont envolve alot of tactics. What if he was a fan of sim city, or other games like that? I find that pretty much everyone that likes RTSs tends to enjoy sins.

I don't think Sim City is considered a RTS, but a god game/simulator....

As others have explained it's not like any type of traditional RTS at all. It's takes a simple RTS approach and expands it to incredible levels to that of a strategy game like fatshodan said.

Personally I've put 60+ hours and have enjoyed it immensely so it's a big recommendation from me.

Buy it. Not only is it a must have game if you are even remotely interested in RTS's (Yes, it's a "modded" rts...it's tactics are different...you don't micromanage battles but are more of a "general" in that the tactics are larger scale) but by buying it you supporting perhaps the greatest pc gaming companies out there in their idealogue. Stardock has no drm, you don't have to have the CD in the comp, and Brad Wardell is a stud. Look him up if you haven't heard of him or the company. You'll want to give them your money even if you didn't like the game.

I was thinking of picking up this game due to the severe lack of RTS's coming out in the 2008 holiday season. Starcraft 2 just got pushed back to 2009 so I know thats out of the option. It's not everyones cup of tea (especially during these seemingly ADHD driven times where most games are designed for people with 5 minute attention spans) but it most definitely is mine. Heartily recommend it (but try the demo first).

There's a demo. Play it. :) If you like the demo at all, you should love the full game though. It is nothing like a traditional RTS though, but it's awesome.

first a warning....it has no single player campaign.

its a cracking game though imho, well worth a buy. although it lacks a campaign, a big skirmish map can last around 10 hours and there randomly generated. its got 3 factions that are quite different also.

well worth a play imho.
